I'm actually more angry at Disney than the folks they're basing this on. I mean, they're kind of clueless, but they do actually plan to use the kingdom as something besides a fancy trophy.
Disney, on the other hand, can't pull something like this. Come on, Disney. You only have two black princesses, and The Princess and the Frog doesn't count because it was basically a 'paint-by-the-numbers' dealie.
anmd ent down into that rabbit hole, past 9/11, into some of the nineties internet culture.
Back when you recorded episodes as they aired, and when you worried whenever a football game was on or movie was aired because it means your show would be pre-empted and you'd have to wait until reruns o see any scene that was cut.
And, of course, that meant that any twenty-minute show had to have at least three minutes of filler, not counting the intro.
But dang... you can just feel the whole atmosphere change between september tenth and twelfth f 2001, ust looking at the titles of threads alone.
I think most nineties-nostalgia is really pre-9/11 nostalgia.
For a long time, it was very hard to find the pilot of Twin Peaks, because the rights for it were different than the rights for the rest of the series.
Then, when box sets started coming out, the version of the pilot put on VHS was the version aired as a Made-For-TV movie in europe, complete with a resolution for the story that contradicts what happens in the following episodes.
It was not until the release of the Twin Peaks Gold Box Set on DVD that the pilot as it originally aired became widely available.

YNTKT
That reminds me, you said that Twin Peaks is good, so I should watch Twin Peaks.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

and is it just me, or did the nineties themselves start kind of late? 1991 wasn't all that different from 1988 or 1989, even after Nirvana. By 1995, however, quite a bit had changed.

Those other tropes are what you might consider The Dragon's Nakama, willing to defend it if it is threatened.
