i was gonna join mensa at some point but then i read more about it and i figured eh why bother, the sorts of people who would join a society for smart people would prolly be boring to talk to

I have a friend who was in MENSA for a time and he's told me it was the most bored he's ever been.

I considered joining MENSA but ultimately reached the conclusion that there's little point to it besides bragging rights, and I kinda outgrew the "lol my IQ is 147 and yours isn't" gloating when I was 14

i'm pretty sure mine is around the range of yours, maybe a little lower
sometimes I feel inferior as well that I never liked school or academia as much as I feel like I'm "supposed to"
I've ALWAYS been too spergy for that...
Formal education is very rigid and rarely accounts for differences in learning style.
It's not just a "spergy" thing, I had huge amounts of trouble at school just because most teachers I had would never let me get out of my seat for a few minutes every now and again. The grades that I had teachers who did let me do that (3rd, 6th, and 7th) were, not coincidentally, some of my best years in terms of grades.

You know, books and stuff make being a kid who's smarter than all the adults around you out to be some kind of cool thing
But in reality it sucks because the adults who aren't as smart of you are the ones who have the power
It's a metaphor for society as a whole, or something

if you're smart, people expect things of you, if you don't meet those expectations, you get yelled at, which causes you to underperform, which makes you do worse, which gets you yelled at, etc.

I think that's a general issue with declaring children to be 'smart' at an early age.
Instead of their exceptional ability being simply something they can do, it becomes a part of their self-conceptualization. And when their exceptional ability can't carry them anymore, they start having existential crises.
ultimately i've scraped through life so far by being smart, along with some crash courses in fending for myself which have left me a tad neurotic and my rather ample natural charm

I could tell you nothing about it, other than there were hedge animals at some point.
