I love Gone Home, but I agree with that sentiment that it's not a thing that kids will easily understand. A game with a fun and rewarding system is more their speed.
However, the core statement expressed that bloggers aren't real journalists, that just because someone believes that Gone Home is worth something means their opinion is invalid? They can go eat an entire ass. Preferably their own.

Yeah, it seems less like a situation that could actually happen, and more the junction of "Anonymous doesn't like Kotaku", "Anonymous doesn't like bloggers", and "Anonymous doesn't like Gone Home".

I feel like it's really more of a virtual art piece/performance whatever. Like going into a museum and listening to those "experience" tapes. Sorta.
The whole crux of what a video game is and isn't is that a video game has rules, rules that if you follow, you succeed, and if you don't, you fail, you lose. Gone Home has none of these things.
Literally the only reason anyone cares whether or not Gone Home fits the literal definition of "video game" is because they feel that if it doesn't that somehow makes it worse than it is.
People make the same argument about Proteus, or, to give an example that I don't like, The Stanley Parable.
