  • I dunno, man, I wouldn't blame him for going to that one first

She does have a lot to pick from, some of which are more memorable than others (nobody really latched onto XO from her latest, even though it was pretty much bred for pop radio).
  • i don't think i've ever actually heard "girls run the world" on the radio

but that might be one of those weird regional things. like how stations around here always play "Bethlehem PA" around christmastime

They played it a lot on hip-hop radio down here, which made me more often than not wish I could listen to Pon de Floor by Major Lazer (the song it sampled) right afterward

that song's video is weird as hell (not Run the World, Pon de Floor)

speaking of Kanye: it bugs me how people keep on going on about his "style"

cuz like he doesn't really have one

he has fairly good taste, and his outfits are (usually) on point, but there isn't really anything "quintessentially Kanye", you know what i'm saying?

like he had that Givenchy thing for a while, and he rocked some tight-baggy pants with timbs and now he's doing this weird earth tone ninja Margiela thing

he doesn't have a cohesive personal aesthetic
  • I mostly know of Girls Run the World because it sampled Pon de Floor

i don't think i ever heard it on the radio

are you sure they're not talking like

    musical style
  • No, i'm talking about people talking about Kanye's fashion sense.

I don't really hang about in places where people discuss his music at length.

i want that coat in the middle kinda, but it costs a fortune (*it's from his most recent and final collection with A.P.C.*)
  • oh. idk.

it always struck me as weird that people even cared about that in the first place
  • edited 2014-08-03 02:56:32

at lest I think it is?

it might actually be that coat being worn by that dude way on the left.
  • yeaahhhh it is the one being worn by the dude on the left

    im a dope
  • oh. idk.

it always struck me as weird that people even cared about that in the first place

clothes are a big part of how he markets himself, he talks about them often, and he's famous

which has ended up making him something of a tastemaker, for better or for worse

yeah but like, he's a musician, so I don't care what he wears

idk apparently i'm in a serious minority there.
  • I'm on the fence with Kanye as a man but I have always been fond of his work

I distinctly remember knowing all the words to Gold Digger before I even knew what a gold digger was, and desperately wanting a pair of Blindsided shutter shades when Stronger came out

I'm kind of excited to see what he raps like as a married man, but that's just me.
  • I don't really care about what he wears either (for the aforementioned reasons)
  • besides the sunglasses, ditto
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
As far as musicians who dress well are concerned, I was really taken with the description of how Stephen Mallinder would thrift striking outfits in Rip It Up And Start Again.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I don't care either what the man wears in public, but when he makes a music video I expect really good costumes.
  • kill living beings
i thought those were british jihadists for a sec
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS

This doll is seriously awesome, if it's really from the late 1980s; not only relatively clear speech (from a TI LPC-10 chip), but simple voice recognition as well.

I don't think anything says "WELCOME TO 1987, BITCHES" better than this catalog page. So...much...Casio.

    Which was Julius Caesar's motto:

1: Speak softly and carry a big stick
    2: friendship before all
    3:  I came, I saw, I conquered
    4: knowledge before war

Wow, kiddie trivia games, one of those is not like the others.

    4: Ottawa

An exclamation mark is most often used to express
    1. Calm
    2. Boredom
    3. Blase
    4. Excitement

Do periods go within or outside of quotations?
    1: within
    2: outside
    3: both
    4:neither

HOLY CRUD KIDDIE TRIVIA, THIS IS HARD BECAUSE IN BRITAIN IT IS OUTSIDE THE QUOTE AND OUTSIDE BRITAIN IT IS INSIDE THE QUOTE.

Which is the correct definition of Eccentric?

3: a person of a specified kind (usually with many eccentricities)
4: a disposition or tendency to yield to the will of others

Which of the following shapes is a trapezium?

GOSH DANG IT KIDDIE TRIVIA, ARE YOU FROM THE UNITED STATES OR NOT?  INSIDE THE UNITED STATES, A TRAPEZIUM IS A DIFFERENT SHAPE THAN WHAT A TRAPEZIUM IS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES.

Which of the following is a quadrillion:

DANG IT, YOU.  YOU'RE JUST MOCKING ME NOW BECAUSE YOU KNOW I KNOW IT'S TWO DIFFERENT THINGS IN BRITAIN AND AMERICA.
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
I was under the impression that Britain doesn't actually use the long scale much anymore.
  • guardians of the galaxy has a talking raccoon

furry law dictates i must watch it at some point
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    I heard it's good
  • My dreams exceed my real life
It's a superhero movie by the director of Slither which is cool

The two original Philly Cheesesteak places are mediocre, it seems.

    Sonny's was much better

Well he failed better than the Russo Bros and they got a Marvel movie
  • Odradek I'm starting to think you bring up the MCU just as much as your friend
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    Naney brought it up
  • i'm the one who brought up the MCU this time

    because talking raccoon
  • speaking of movies me and the beau watched Aguirre the other day

it was shorter than i remembered
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
a talking raccoon who shares his first name with a certain flying squirrel
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    His name is Rocket.

    It was originally Rocky though
  • he also shares it with a certain fictional boxer and almost with a real life wrestler, a rapper, several actors, a crane from Thomas the Tank Engine, the janitor from The Amazing World Of Gumball, and a mountain range.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    Rocket Raccoon, Rocket J. Squirrel
  • rocky the raccoon sounds better imho
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
In the movie, his name is just Rocket. No "the raccoon" at all. And when someone calls him a raccoon, his reaction is "What the hell is that?"
  • what is a raccoon?

A miserable pile of cute masks and knocking over trash bins.
