they are originally (thousands of years ago, probably) from modern India. they are known for a peripatetic nomadic lifestyle, meaning they are itinerant between cities. this has lessened in modern times, probably, for internal and external reasons. they frequently formed creole sorta languages due to their hanging out in regions but not assimilating; erromintxela is an example. there is a long standing tradition of discrimination against romani people in europe, called "antiziganism". some other stuff
It sort of boggles my mind how some Europeans can espouse equality for all races, sexes, orientations, etc. etc. blah blah, but then turn around and say that it's different with Romani because well they actually are all thieves who kidnap children and sell them to the black market.
I mean I guess that's just how racism works in general, but still.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
AU's still in contact with Tachyon, and last I heard he hasn't actually decided whether he's leaving "forever" yet
I think he needs a little cool off time before then honestly..

It was that one night when a bunch of people from IJBM came here
Gentlemancorus just busted in and was like "lol so that GMH guy is a fuckin prick, huh, lol" and it was so weird; I didn't know if it was an in-joke or whatever but it seemed like he was just being a jerk and no one else said anything about it.

I think I have vague memories of flagging some post to that effect.
Oh, that. If I recall correctly, something happened wherein Mojave Music got banned, and there was some dispute among the mods whether it was or should have been a tempban or a permaban, and I think there was also some dispute over whether the ban was merited at all, and various users and a few mods decided to take the chance to quit the forum.
(A few of the people who left the forum still hang out on IJBM's IRC channel, for what it's worth.)
What the heck, that was long enough ago that I was involved?
I remember going off on whatsisface and then leaving and never going back, but that was more than five months ago. You're talking like a solid year at least, if not longer.
HEY Kex I put up a new review on my blagoblag you should go read it
Okay, thoughts:
"In the era of Early Access, quickly-changing trends, and excessive genre tags, it’s easier than ever to dismiss a game out of hand. Magicite is not hard to dismiss if you’re looking for reasons, it’s a platformer with procedural generation, survival elements (ie. crafting), and a somewhat crude sense of humor. A lot of games that fit this description are barely playable, ultra-cynical moneygrabs. " This sentence seems... almost extraneous. I get what you're going for, and I understand why you wanted it in the review, but as it stands it seems like kind of a weak jab at the people who panned it. Also, the last sentence needs more development. This subgenre of games is almost wholly unfamiliar to me, and I think you should either cut the sentence out so you're not introducing an element you don't follow up on, or provide examples.
Really, the first paragraph reads more like a response to other people's assessment of the game than an overview, but without explicitly referencing any statement it just comes off as half-hearted. Also, this kind of thing is saved for the body of your review, not the intro.
On the whole your tone reads more like a summary or a recommendation than a critique; that's not necessarily a horrible thing, but I get the feeling that you're aiming for something a bit higher than that. At any rate, if you want to mix the two, it's best to keep the recommendation aspect short and sweet.
I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being too hard on you here; as I mentioned through PM, your reviews have been about 300% more existent than mine and much more concise and well-written.

Nova was involved in that one, right?
I don't remember how involved she was. She did leave the forum, and she does continue to hang out on the IRC channel.
"but let's be honest, no one on this site cares about what anyone else on this site says on any meaningful level, so why bother?"
I still maintain that this is true about IJBM2, or at least was when I posted there at all.
Similar feeling to standing in a room with a bunch of people split into groups of two, and all of these groups of two are having their own conversations loudly enough that you can hear them all, but because they're all going at the same time, it's hard to care about any of them.
I still feel kinda responsible for the mass exodus, since I'm an admin there, though I really don't know what I should have done differently.
It's not your fault that most of the people on that site just didn't get along with each other.
Here, when we have conflict, it's usually a brush between acquaintances at worst. On IJBM2 I felt actively hated, and I didn't like most of the other posters (most of the ones I did also post here, so no big loss for me).
you will continue to have this revelation every time you step into a grocery store / there is a steam sale / you're hungry / you see something shiny. Mark my words.
In South Africa, it is believed that eating the flesh of human albinos will confer superpowers to the eater (which inspired the District 9 example, above).
The superstition is actually far more common in northern parts of Africa. Medical science is in a somewhat better state in South Africa than in much of the continent.
Just to really drive the point home: Yes, this does mean that there are people living in the 21st century Africa who chop up and cannibalize other humans because they believe it will give them magic powers. Not a myth, not some kind of racist blood libel, literal truth. There is a black market for human albino meat!
Well, I guess the question one step back from that is "how should I have managed the site so as to avoid that feeling in the first place".
It might have just come with the territory though, since it's a forum ostensibly about discussing things that different people may or may not find objectionable in varying degrees.
Though if anything I didn't feel that it was actively antagonistic as much as I felt that there were just multiple camps of people who just talked about the stuff they personally liked.
Which happens for any group of sufficient size, really.

Hell if I know.
Despite how you may feel I genuinely feel that a lot of people on IJBM2 were just not pleasant folks to be around. I cannot ever envision myself having a civil conversation with say, Madass Alex. Whereas even with Miko who I often did not get along with, we could talk about things at times, and it was not that difficult.

I am feeling too tired to dig through the site history to find it.

The sole post on this page.
So I feel like these are two seperate, unrelated incidents.

Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead

Perhaps I'm speaking out of turn here though.
