Styx is such a shitty band because the name makes you think that they'd be a dope-ass thrash or death metal band but instead they're like this ultra-obnoxious ballad-y dadprog outfit.

but to get down to the core of things, given the fairly precise and technically demanding nature of most death metal i'd have a hard time believing that someone actually trying to listen to it would find it "incomprehensible noise"
now that's not to say that everyone would or should enjoy it, as it's definitely a niche thing.
Now I'm watching the NC's Sidekicks review, and...well, his comments about the protagonist's apparent mental illness are a bit less funny knowing that his actor ended up killing himself back in 2003. :/
so i heard about two or three musical sections, distinguished by their tonality and rhythm
i can't figure out how they were related, aside from stylistically
the lyrics were incomprehensible, but lyrics generally are even when they're not growled, and i'm not much a fan of this style of singing anyway, but i don't particularly care about lyrics so it's not a big deal

like
you can't seriously tell me that this isn't perfectly comprehensible and eminently musical.
well you can, but i won't believe you.

but saying that it's just noise is, well, wrong.
your point is invalid
anyway, on a more serious note (and no pun intended), listening to the video you posted just now

but they're a very fun band all around imo with lots of catchy songs
and over time i've come to value catchiness over virtuosic playing and brutality when it comes to metal
those three vowels
partly becaues i don't know what a breakdown is nor what a groove is
Suffocation tends to fall more on the punk-y side of this as the band members all came from a punk sort of background.
