Sonic 3 & Knuckles was probably my favorite--Sonic 2 was the one I played the most, I think, but it was kind of frustrating. I remember thinking Sonic 3's powerups were really cool, though.
Of the console games, I could play up till Sonic 2006. That was the last game I honestly enjoyed.(albeit, I needed help) I need to play Colors and Generations, though. Hopefully they'll be more playable than Unleashed was(360 version).
For handhelds... there's Tails Adventure, Sonic Battle, both Sonic Rivals, and Sonic Rush Adventure.

Apparently Dr Cuozzo has written a book called Buried Alive in which he tells a story of being chased around Paris (France) in a van by people in sports cars who are trying to shoot him as a result of his "discoveries" ,well that's what the Amazon book review says anyway .

I LOVED Sonic 3 + Sonic in Knuckles...
Though I got VERY good at the Sonics games, too the point where I would spend a great deal of the games running around as Super/Hyper Sonic obliterating all in my path.
