They got rid of the "cuteness", or maybe the chrome effect did that.
That actually kinda makes sense, now that I think about it.
I saw an interview where McCracken said that he was frustrated with all the "girly" and "cutesy" merchandise CN was slapping the girls on, so when he made the movie he deliberately made it darker and more serious...and the less cute logo kinda reflects that!
