    ^ No, I made a crueler joke.

I revealed what Carpe Fulgur's Project 4 was, on their forum.

...and someone actually believed my tale.

so i don't really have incentive to post there
    Same here.

I admit, I have a weird sort of relationship with the place. It goes back to the Jammies thread on TVT. I saw how popular the thread was and  I wanted to start posting there because I wanted to be one of the cool kids. But I waited too long, and by the time I started posting their regularly the thread's initial group of regulars had run off to IJBM2.

So I tried posting on IJBM, but I still couldn't become one of the cool kids. I ended up just kinda harboring a bitter resentment towards the place for a long time, because it felt like I was the dork who likes to post road signs and everyone just points and laughs because I'm not talking about comics or video games or whatever.

I'm over that now--thank god--but it's still frustrating to me that I can't manage to fit in better over there. Nor can I shake the feeling that a good chunk of the people there don't like me and/or find me annoying, though I guess this is unfounded.

I have made two deliberate errors on this page.

    A. Venue, no matter how annoying you are, I will always be more annoying. (◡ ‿ ◡ ✿) Really no one cares about magical lesbians who make pretty light shows.
  • > implying IJBM was ever the cool kids
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Not even cool enough for the not-cool kids

    That might be sad...?
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I think tropers were just never the cool kids and most/all of us were tropers.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
At some point, however, one realizes that "cool kids" vs. "not cool kids" is a stupid way of looking at things
  • i'm the coolest.

    end of story

^^ Quite! :D The *real* way to be cool is to make nice things and do nice things and not be afraid of what anyone else thinks!

Yep. It just took me a while to get there.
  • thus what the quotation marks were

What you should be using is

Terminologically acceptable within the parameters of opinions: media
Terminologically unacceptable without parameters: any category
Logically undeniable and worthy of respect: any category
    Auxiliary opinion persuader: any category.
  • To be honest, I agree that sometimes the topics at IJBM feel a bit limited.

So I try to spice things up with some more variety!  And you should too!  Because you never know, you might just find someone who enjoys talking about a topic that you didn't think anyone would be interesting.  Besides, the best way to get people talk about something is to start talking about it yourself.

Every single time I've tried this I've either gotten no responses at all, or gotten "this shouldn't bother you and you should feel bad that it does".

i went through the media threads there earlier trying to find a general music thread and i found like some of your threads and i can 112% verify this
  • Wait, isn't there a general music dump thread?
  • No one who routinely talks about music (eg. myself) has any interest in a music dump thread, because like an actual garbage dump, it is full of things people are unlikely to discuss.

I did make a general music discussion thread but it rarely gets posts and honestly I get the impression that most IJBM users (like most nerds in general for whatever reason) seem to prefer METAL \m/ over any other genre of music, and the couple who don't seem to prefer classical.

True; there's a reason I'm not personally fond of "post your whatever of the moment" threads generally.

And yeah, unfortunately I have almost no interest in metal so I share your feelings about that part at least.

    ~looks through threads~

So you're the person who's been posting about rap.  I'm open to listening to rap (unlike some people), but I unfortunately don't know much about it since I'm not actively interested in it.
  • I wouldn't know what direction to point you in unless you'd tell me what other kind of music you listen to.

Also this conversation should probably be had in the Tunes thread.

    You know, though

Some good did come of my childish attempts to be one of "the cool kids", in that every attempt to do so actually brought me closer to people I'm actually a better fit for. My participation in the original IJBM led me to Anonus and JZ, my participation in the Jammes thread led me to Naney and Bunny, and my partipation in #yackfest led me to Section42L. Cool, no?

^ Eh, it's not like this was really a strictly on-topic thread to begin with.

You mean the Heap of Tunes?

I'm happy to keep going here if that's okay with Centie.  (Hell, this IS a General-category thread.)

If you can find me some rap songs that have a pretty strong harmonic component to them, that would be nice.  For example:
    * Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
    * Eminem - The Way I Am

Incidentally, thanks for causing me to do a search for your threads; I'm enjoying reading your rants about rap music.
  • I don't remember what rants I've made, but thank you.

In any case, mid-phase Bone Thugs n' Harmony had a pretty strong harmonic element and were sometimes disparagingly referred to as a barbershop quartet.

I don't listen to much Bone Thugs but I will recommend you E. 1999 Eternal since it's the album "Tha Crossroads" is from.

By and large though, Harmony is not an often-explored concept in rap vocals. Heck, it's rare even in rap instrumentals.

  • Well that's not surprising considering that it's basically just a backdrop against which the vocals are set.

Come to think of it, reading into your posts a bit (now that I've showered), I think I should look into instrumental hip-hop.
  • Well that's not true at all, instrumental hip-hop can be very complex and rewarding, even if the beats were originally intended to be rapped over.

For a "classic" and more recent example respectively, I'd direct you to DJ Shadow's Endtroducing.... and Clams Casino's Instrumental Mixtape Vol. 1.

For what it's worth, I kind of floated around the TVT forums the same way I did the lunch room in high school until I discovered people were actually talking in the old Heap. Before that, I was either making a fool of myself in Fetishes (note to self: exhibitionism will not get you friends :P) or whining about how lonely I was in Insecurity. Not a happy existence, really
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Fetishes was good fun, for a while
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Fetishes went from funny to deeply uncomfortable for me over a span of time.

    Old!IJBM 2 was a very strange place.

Fetishes went from funny to deeply uncomfortable for me over a span of time.

  • At some point fetishes went from talking about fetishes to half the thread making fun of people who had any fetishes at all and the other half of the thread confessing desires to fuck teddybears and the like.

  • ain't just fluff they're stuffed with anymore wink wink nudge nudge

I only really participated in Fetishes for a few days, in late 2010. I don't think I really posted anything there worse than the stuff I post in the NSFW thread here.

I stopped because I realized I was weirding out AU...only later did I learn that his odd reactions to seeing me talk about sex were because he was attracted to me.
  • ⊗¯\_(ツ)_/¯⊗
I did not expect this to trigger serious discussion o.o
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Fucking teddy bears is a-ok! Anyway the thread is *called* "fetishes;" what is one to expect? Maybe they should have just called it "sex."

    > Old!IJBM 2 was a very strange place.

    How so?
  • ⊗¯\_(ツ)_/¯⊗
Glenn: Well, it WAS like a fusion of Heapers and current IJBM, all trying to be like IJBM 1.0 while saying, "Nah that was stupid we're better but funnier and we don't need TVTROPES BUT WE DO NEED THEM!"

    Plus Chuggles
  • Oh those days

    hahahahahahahaha
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    ^^ Icalasari nailed it.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I'm surprised that Fetishes is even still around

You'd think it would have been deleted a while ago
  • You know, there are totally links to various pieces of shotacon art way back in that thread.

I wonder if anyone could direct google to them.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
AU: From what I remember, enough people begged for it to stay that it was able to get by with just a name change. I doubt they've have let it start now if it didn't already exist, between Google threatening to pull funding and Eddie's seeming dislike of young adults in general.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^ I'm not sure whether to cringe or grin maliciously at that.
  • You could split the difference and cringe maliciously.

    Talk about grandfather clauses.

(Fun fact: every time I say "talk about ____" I have to resist the urge to say "talk about eye candy!" instead, since that will, like, not be a joke most people get)

I could make the obvious joke here, but I am lazy and would prefer to see someone else do it for me.

But yes, there are things from my early tenure at TVT that I would rather not have been either involved with or aware of.

(This does not include you guys. You guys were and are great.)
