I can understand the reasoning, but since almost everyone has some sense of gender identity, in practice that classification is seen as condescending or disrespectful by some.  Some people who are diagnosed don't feel that they have a disorder.  If it gets people SRS when they need it then obviously that works out very well for them, but it's a controversial definition all the same.

It's a kind of thorny issue, obviously.  I'm not sure how I feel about the subject.
  • ...You know what this site needs? More gay. There is not enough gay here.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
There's already more than enough gay.

The issue here is that the DSM-IV entry can mostly be attributed to one Dr. Kenneth Zucker, who wouldn't know how to deal with treatment of trans people if it came up and punched him in the face. He's repeatedly attempted to make kids "not trans anymore", and is also the guy who chose to publish Dr. Robert Spitzer's study on gay reparative therapy in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, without peer review.

"Helpfully", he's also on board for DSM-V.

    Sounds like it probably should!

What do we know about Ray Blanchard?  It doesn't sound as though he's any better...

  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast

    ^^ You're 50 numbers late.
  • Being bigendered is fun.
  • Wait wait wait

Just...let me get this down for a sec.

Magikarp, Inane, and deathonabun are all gay men who identify as men.

Central Avenue is a gay/bisexual man who identifies as a girl.

AU is the same, except he identifies as male.

Morbid_Forest/dracosketch is a bisexual man who is gender-fluid.

CA is transgender.  Which might be what you meant I guess but yeah.

    Magikarp is gender fluid.

Forest is female/gender-fluid and I don't think she's interested in guys bisexual. (edit)

You missed a bunch of people.  Is this important?
  • Uh, just wanted to make sure.

    Who did I miss?
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    You mean specifically LGBT heapers?

If I try to make a comprehensive list I'll probably miss someone or get the details wrong.  But you missed Matt, Wind Fish and Fossilmaiden, at least.

Sexuality and gender are confusing and I'm not going to commit myself to a particular description.
  • Saigyouji is gay?

    Huh.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
No idea about that.  But she said her gender was female.
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
    Saig is bi IIRC

    I am not bi
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
Bi as a two wheeled vehicle with pedals.

    Or a horrible metaphor.
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
Btw, I'm either a lesbian or a straight male. I'm probably a lesbian I think
  • The sadness will last forever.
    I'm bisexual.
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
Yes I know you are :3
  • I'm a loser. Also, Creeper. And a woman.
    Well, I'm bisexual and transgendered(MtF).
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    ^^^ My bad, correcting.

^ See, I knew I'd miss people if I made a list.  Sorry, Irene.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
Doublepost I know but I have a question and wondered what people here thought.

Is it better to come out to your parents when you're not in a relationship, or to leave it until you are in one?
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
How do you mean by "coming out"?
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
As gay or bi or whatever.
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
    So you mean sexuality then?

Well, whenever you feel comfortable I guess
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
Yes, sorry.  I should have made that clearer.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Come out once you're already in a relationship. It will make it less easy for them to deny it.

/I know nothing of these matters
  • I'm a loser. Also, Creeper. And a woman.
I'd say before, personally. That way, they don't have to worry about more than just you having a specific sexual orientation.

That's a nice one, although a bit oversimplified.

Well, the way society treats gender roles is actually pretty complex, I think.

However, I can at least agree with that picture in spirit.

You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Heh heh, I got an Easy-Bake Oven for my birthday one year. I literally used it once and then put it on a shelf and forgot about it.

That was back when they were styled to look like early-'90s microwave ovens instead of miniature gas stoves. It was also powered by a single incandescent light bulb--apparently newer models use an actual heating element due to the impending ban on incandescent light bulbs.

^^ I agree with that.  I like the sentiment, at any rate.

    >Fouria if you are wanting to come out then it may be less sudden if you do it before being in a relationship

This is what I was thinking but I don't know.

    Thanks for the answers.

The big oversimplification I notice with that poster is it treats gender as a binary. It goes on and on about girls and boys but doesn't talk about the people who are both or neither.
