I'd say "rainbow", like the LGBT flag, but that's kinda gaudy

i nominate the Mellis K6 for telephone booth of the Heapers' Hangout
  • There are eight panels.

Those center circles ought to show the following, from top to bottom:
    1. a grassland.
    2. a desert.
    3. a lagoon of islands.
    4. a forest of towering trees.
    5. clouds in the sky.
    6. a snow-covered plain.
    7. ducts and pipes in a machine room.
    8. fire and lava.
  • alternatively:
    1. a forested island
    2. grassy plains
    3. a cave of crystals
    4. a bridge
    5. a forest shrouded in haze
    6. a brownish/reddish rocky arid region
    7. a dark cave
    8. a neon sign
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
they're supposed to depict the Suffolk countryside

it's a little short of deserts and lava
  • edited 2014-01-11 22:35:28
    alternatively:
    1. a two-headed snake
    2. a humanoid giant
    3. a frilled lizard
    4. a huge fish-like sea monster
    5. a humongous one-eyed demon with small helper demons that help open its eye
    6. an humanoid alien piloting a spacecraft engaged in combat
    7. a sabbatical goat
    8. a creature with the upper body of a human woman and a lower body of a serpent

This board needs an anorak who's obsessed with models of telephone booths.

    NO

    stop this video game nonsense

i will not stand for it
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
most model telephone booths i've found have been inadequate

the proportions are always wrong, and often they have too few windows
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
    You should build your own!
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    maybe!

    i'm bad at building stuff...

actually, it depends what you mean by models

there are some very professional life-sized reproduction kiosks (including whole businesses dedicated to reproducing certain popular models)

but the kinds of miniature ones you can buy (i.e. shit i can actually afford) are usually off-model
  • or the two sides of the booth can depict the following:

    panel 1A: a compass and a map
panel 1B: an inverted compass and a map split into pieces that are rearranged like a puzzle
panel 2A: old-style architecture such as columns
panel 2B: ancient ruins, such as broken columns
panel 3A: a yellow pyramid with a man standing inside it
panel 3B: an inverted blue pyramid with a woman standing inside it
panel 4A: aqueducts, pulleys, wheels (symbols of ancient technology)
panel 4B: a television and a rocket (symbols of modern technology)
    panel 5A: a volcano
    panel 5B: a mechanical structure
panel 6A: a battlefield after battle, strewn with fire and the dead
panel 6B: a baby shower and an infant in swaddling clothes
    panel 7A: a maze
panel 7B: the same maze, but mirror-reversed
panel 8A: horizontal lines with an infinity symbol in the middle
panel 8B: vertical lines with a numeral 8 in the middle

okay fine, i'll build a separate telephone booth that shows the stuff I was talking about

    :)

you know, designing window art for K6s does seem like fun

there are actually 3 sides with windows, so potentially there are up to 72 panels to decorate (counting the narrow windows on either side)
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
...That's a lot to work with
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
Indeed, though as with the Mellis kiosk, it would make sense to decorate the narrow windows to match the ones in the central column, unless you were going for a very simplistic design.

If you were using a K2 instead, you'd have 54 windows to decorate, all of them with equal proportions... i think it would make sense to treat each window as a separate panel, in that case.

    That makes sense.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
...you know, i'm a complete derp

you were talking about models of telephone kiosks in the sense that the K6 and the K2 are different models, weren't you, criminalscum?

    in which case...
  • Well, I found it pretty as is... v_v

I did too and I think there should be more booths like that.

Sorry if I didn't come across as appreciative early on.

    No worries.

I actually counted the number of windows and asked myself, what are sets of 8 items that could be symbolized in a set of 8 stained-glass panels.

You could use other sets of 8 as well.  For example, you could tell a story of a person's eight semesters in a four-year course of study at a university.  Or you could symbolize eight key events in World War II (not sure what those would be off the top of my head, but just giving an example).

I just went with Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and La-Mulana because they were the most obvious sets of 8 themed objects in my head.

...my mind leapt to a Vriska-themed telephone kiosk
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
    That would be pretty cool.
  • If it were octagonal and had eight windows on each side, that would be the shiznit.
  • edited 2014-01-11 23:59:27
If you had 9 windows I could have given you various other choices.  One possibility is to display on each panel the first theme melody of the first movement of each of Beethoven's 9 symphonies.

    Same with other numbers.

Could have even more possibilities if you had different shape patterns on the sides.

heh, I mostly thought it was a comment on the board in general being full of people commenting on their interests
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i can't think of any kiosk with eight sides, or nine windows...

thing is i mostly know UK kiosks, so there might well be a 9-windowed kind elsewhere

the K1 had 3 windowed sides with 5 panes on each, except for the Mk. 236 variant which had 8 panes on each

the KX100, the most common of the KX models, has only 6 panes (2 on each windowed side)
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
of course these days you'd be very hard-pressed to find a K1 still standing to decorate, and doing so would be a travesty
  • US versions are typically 3-side rectangular panels at 90 degree angles.

    They're usually covered in advertising.

You could build a replica K1 and decorate that!

    ladies and gentlemen.... The Internet
  • ^^ which kind of K1?

    something like this?

most American payphones i've seen on TV and in pictures have been the open air kind without any roof
