In a white-dominated society, they can't; or rather, any instances of such are quite rare, miniscule, and un-harmful compared to discrimination against racial minorities. For example, a white person complaining that there aren't white-only scholarships. If a white person left the western world where other racial groups are the majority, then they could be discriminated against.

Just because something is "minuscule" doesn't mean it isn't discrimination. A bigot's a bigot no matter what he hates.

Also lol Armenians, Jews, Irish, etc...
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
The way that American school dress codes treat girls is not okay. In my experience, it is strict. They keep sending the message that girls' bodies are something erotic and something to be ashamed of. I understand covering up breasts and nether regions to be polite to society, but does it really matter if we can see thighs or midriffs or shoulders? Not in the least. :/

Yes but the difference is that a privileged bigot can actually cause harm because the system works in their favour.
  • Don't you hate that feeling when you see a post you want to contest but it's so fundamentally wrong on so many levels that it's just not worth it.
  • The sadness will last forever.

    Yes.

I think there's a Tumblr post making the rounds where all the Trickster mode alpha kids are staring at Dirk's sword (so from the comic itself) communicating out that exact feeling.
  • I seriously want to smash my face into a brick wall every time I see a Macklemore hate post.

Just... gah. When did "heterosexual people shouldn't speak for gay people" become "heterosexual people can't even voice support of gay people?"

    Basically.

He also has one of those hipster mohawks, which I find amusing.

That's why I follow people who tear into those types of comments. Like some I saw today with regards to Macklemore, which boils down to: Someone using their privilege and clout (a lot of people know who Macklemore is, after all) to help is a good thing, it doesn't matter that much that's he's straight because this is mainstream attention he's giving us and some people will have to listen to some straight dude as opposed to someone who's gay or lesbian to get it through their heads, and his privilege doesn't change the support he's giving.

    Seems like a coincidence.

Like, if Macklemore had a history of this kind of thing, or really any kind of obnoxious musician behavior, I might believe it, but honestly from what I've seen I have no reason to believe that he'd steal, especially considering they're both pretty obscure.

...i don't hear how they sound similar apart from how they both used the same sax sample

which prolly happened because they were both produced by lazy-ass producers who just grabbed shit out of a sample pack

^ le1f isn't really all that obscure, just saying...
  • Having heard "Wut" before, they don't strike me as particularly similar.

Furthermore, if it was the case, it would be Ryan Lewis' fault, since Macklemore doesn't self-produce.

I mentioned before that porn tends to objectify races. And I finally found the post that had this picture!

See how ebony's the most common term in a number of old South states? And how Asian is the biggest category in California?
  • This isn't the first time otherwise levelheaded rappers have used Macklemore hate for free publicity, and that's incredibly disheartening.
  • the cardinal rule of sample packs: don't use shit from sample packs apart from drums because people will recognize the samples immediately and laugh at you forever
  • Speaking of sample packs I have never understood the point of fake sample packs.

There's been a fake Brick Squad Kit floating around for like a year now and I just don't get what one would gain from making that.

In fact pretty much every pack marked with a producer's name is fake.

there are actually several d'n'b sample packs floating around compiled by famous producers that are legit, cuz they have lots of fans that are also producers and they give them out on facebook and dogs on acid and stuff

i have sample packs produced by Noisia, Forbidden Society, Billian, and Cybernetika, amongst others...

    I meant hip-hop sample packs.

In general, DIY production culture in hip-hop is very different than production culture in electronica. Most producers are pretty closed-gate about more or less everything they use and 99% of people you'll talk to on the subject are quite openly only in it for the money (this is to say nothing of the rapper side of that equation).

maybe i'm just a pollyanna but don't the states with the high numbers of people searching with ethnic descriptors have notably higher numbers of that particular set of persons?

like maybe it's that black people look for naughty videos with black people in them?

or am i wildly off-base or something?... >_>

I think "Ebony" tends to get used fairly commonly on Porn sites, so it makes sense that it would be used instead of say, "black".

That being said, I'm glad others made the connection between population and the search terms. I wasn't sure if I should point it out or not.

And "anita queen" is apparently a porn star or something?

She must be super popular in Nevada to beat out categories.

Why are Utah and Ohio blank?

(as are a number of East Coast states, but I figure that's because of space restraints; hard to fit words on Rhode Island)
  • Because people in Utah and Ohio are too pious to watch pornography

    obviously.
  • Justice42 said:And "anita queen" is apparently a porn star or something?

    I
     misread that as Anita Sarkeesian.

I don't even know what to say about the prospect of Anita Sarkeesian porn, or the people who would look that up.

Funny thing, I made that same internal typo.

Utah's and Ohio's are compilation and creampie, respectively. I'm not quite sure what creampie is, and I'd rather not look it up in urban dictionary.

More poking around has revealed that the top five categories countrywide are teen (again, proving my theory), lesbian, Milf, Amateur and Ebony. And that Boston's consumption of porn went way up after the Boston hockey team lost the big sports thing (the cup, right?)

Sorry if I'm a bit overeager about this stuff. I've had that theory about porn shaping society roles and individual perceptions of people has been rattling around my head for a while. It's nice to see some data to cross-check my theories with.

Yes but the difference is that a privileged bigot can actually cause harm because the system works in their favour.
That's still just a subset of actual discrimination though.

Look dude, I know that white people have more inherent advantages than other people, but redefining things like "racism" and "discrimination" to exclude white people is not the solution to that. "Institutionalized racism" works just as well and avoids semantics stuff like this.

Also I dislike how people use "ugh, white people just get HURT FEELS anyways" because it disregards peoples' emotions, which I think need a certain amount of respect.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
An unprivileged bigot deserves to be called out for their bigotry, but they are ultimately far less dangerous than privileged bigots who, all things considered, probably create most unprivileged bigots, in one way or another. Sure, people acting like people in the majority shouldn't be allowed to feel offended at what they say are jerks and not doing themselves any favours, but they are a marginally more sympathetic and understandable breed than those that pick upon those in a weaker position than themselves.

Which is not to say that there are not many relatively unprivileged people who are not bigoted against people further down the ladder than them. A non-white person can be a homophobe, a gay person a transphobe, and so forth. In that case, they should be called out immediately.

I agree with you in that privileged and bigoted people are more dangerous than relatively unprivileged people, but that's not the question here. What I'm saying is that the level of ignorance inherent in being a bigot is constant no matter what sort of "privilege" you have.

A tumblr SJW mouthing off about "white opinions/tears/etc" is just as ignorant as Ann Coulter, even if the latter has more power over actual politics.

Which is not to say that there are not many relatively unprivileged people who are not bigoted against people further down the ladder than them. A non-white person can be a homophobe, a gay person a transphobe, and so forth. In that case, they should be called out immediately.

I also agree with this, but I'd like to add that people who aren't "further down the ladder" aren't automatically right. It's true that gay people, black people, etc understand discrimination on a level others cannot, but that is simply taking it too far.

This is true. While I may respect the opinion of someone that faces discrimination on the matter of their own discrimination more than that of someone that has not experienced such discrimination, this does not make them infallible by any means. Furthermore, on the topic of another person's situation, they may well be just as in the dark as someone more privileged in some respect might be about theirs.
