I'm not actually going to go on a rage about the piracy thing. It's just a theory. Good point, Squid.

Then again, we have iTunes, which is legal and cheaper than most CD's. If only people used that more. XD

But not everything is on iTunes.

    And Beatport is better.

I kind of dislike buying music online, although I do that occasionally.  I don't feel like I actually "own" something if it's just software.

iTunes Plus downloads are songs and music videos available in our highest quality 256 kbps AAC audio encoding

^ I prefer physical media too.
  • Hmmm.... can your household make stricter rules about illegal downloading?

    Oh, we could.

But my stepdad is my stepdad and would not follow them.

Bobby: You actually don't own the media anyway. You own the disc or physical copy. You're just buying the right to listen to it regardless of whether the media is digital or not.

iTunes is fine. If something's not on there, buy the real disc. Easy 99% of the time.

I know that.  But I still own the physical copy.  It's something tangible, not just a file.

I'd rather buy the disc, and if there isn't a disc, then use iTunes.

I'm a loser. Also, Creeper. And a woman.
Squid: Sadly, that's how buying anything works. Although I believe that applies to any and all media. And well, I'd expect it solely to. Remember, the data was not created by you, and you're not automatically free to manipulate it. It just causes people to make their own game and attempt to sell it. That's pretty much one of the biggest reasons for this. It's also why some companies are trying to get rid of used games. They want to be payed directly, not let other people make money off of their work. I don't agree with hurting used game stores, though. But I do agree with not owning data.

Naney: Cheap music? Don't see an issue just because a few select songs aren't on there. That'll happen even on pirate sites. You can't get them all no matter what. I have yet to see an issue with them whatsoever. So it's not perfect. Nothing is.

Bobby: Oh, I feel the same way. Also, I need to talk to you in PM's...
  • a few select songs

    Erm, no.

And as I've said before, the audio quality is shit.
  • I'm a loser. Also, Creeper. And a woman.
The fact that I can preview it first, unlike most others... I don't care if it's not perfect.

Sorry, as I said, not an issue for me. But let's move on. No need to go on, since there's nothing more to say.

Fouria-of-about-four-hours-ago, what on Earth possessed you to buy an overpriced bag of nauseating-looking candy "peach loops"?

Seriously, what were you thinking?  I'm completely bewildered here.
  • THOSE????

    Jesus, four-hour-ago-you is a moron.

  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I've never had them, so I'll take your word on them being nasty.

Also, I was at 7-Eleven last night, and I noticed some of the candy they were selling (Kinder Bueno) had a UK nutrition information label on it and not the US Nutrition Facts label. Not that there's much substantial difference between the two (all the data is in grams anyway), but I just thought it was odd that it hadn't been plastered over.

Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
After a Google search to refresh my memory, I can remember seeing peach loops a few times in the candy section of the grocery stores I frequent. I can safely say that I am not interested in them, but they don't really look nauseating.
  • I like peach loops, send them to me.

To be fair, I haven't actually opened the bag, so I don't actually know that they taste nauseating.  They don't look good, though.  I remember I had to go back to buy an extra carrier bag, and I picked those up on a whim at the time.  For some reason.

^ What are you waiting for?  Do you know?
  • beatport: better selection for the electronic fans, but DEAR GOD WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE
  • More or less, though the profits are not nearly split down the middle. I have a friend whose songs were on iTunes briefly and he saw about a penny for each dollar song sold.

  • Aaaaaaaand this is why Bandcamp's so popular.
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
    Gn
  • Yeah, buying shit off iTunes is just barely not piracy.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
when I find the time, I'm going to go stumbling around on that sound cloud or whatever it's called. I don't intend to hand another red cent to a record label or apple ever again.
  • edited 2012-05-09 18:32:13

Fun thought: If I pirated an album and bought a T-Shirt from the band's website they'd get more money then if I'd bought the album off iTunes.

^ Soundcloud is good. S'where I have all my stuffs. Bandcamp too.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    I like Bandcamp.

Some music doesn't seem to be available anywhere but iTunes, though.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Naney oh yeah, I was told you're a musician. Could I get a link to your stuff there?
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.

speaking of music, a while back a fellow took one of my comics and made an album cover out of it for his band up in... Portland, I think?  Another fellow wrote a song titled "listening to 11.975mhz" which had nothing to do with the comic. I found out about both much later.

I couldn't be more flattered. I love that kind of stuff.

  • Bandcamp is pretty awesome, and not just cuz I'm there.

I recommend just browsing tags on there sometime, you come across cool stuff.

Another fellow wrote a song titled "listening to 11.975mhz" which had nothing to do with the comic.

I was actually going to name a song on this very album that XD

    ah well.

I'm a loser. Also, Creeper. And a woman.
    Limewire had some good songs.

    Same with similar programs.

iTunes doesn't usually get certain ones, like parts of episodes, as in audio/video clips. Or atleast I think it doesn't. Not being a "song", after all.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't, how many other songs have the same name?

I'm afraid to look and see how many songs on last.fm are titled, say, "Girl I love"

  • I was born in a hospital named Forsyth. It had a different spelling though.

    YNTKT.
  • Various stuff I've been up to lately.

I'm just starting out though, so it isn't that good.
  • Perhaps I will anyway.

Depends on whether or not I use the sample I plan on using.

  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.

Super Lazuli: Oh yeah,  someone pointed that out to me a while back too. It's these wonderful, spontaneous things that make it all worthwhile. Also the way that guy ended it cracks me up everytime

Naney: thanks! I'll give this a listen while I work my math homework here.

  • i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind
    Hi, everybody!
  • You should also listen to my stuff.

If you want to, that is.

    /self-promotion

But anyway, I found that amusing too. I don't recall how I stumbled across it.

  • @Naney: I have to say, I'm liking "The Stuff Your Dreams Are Made Of". Very minimalist but different enough to have its own sound.

    Good job, bro.
  • Yeah.

I'm still working on that one, mixing and stuff...
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Super Lazuli: I certainly will, what's the link? (sorry if I missed it up there, the stock link font color thingy for this forum is kind of hard to see)
