well, they're not really preventable unless we change the constitution or at the very least reverse the heller v. d.c. ruling

gun rights nuts are obnoxious dickwads
  • also, in places with no guns, yes, there are still mass violence events

but instead of being mass shootings, they are mass stabbings, which result in far fewer lethal injuries

    Basically yes

even from the other side of the world i am furious about this. people will die in Syria and people will die in Britain because of this. they don't care at all, it's all geopolitics and focus groups and electability. burn down the houses of parliament, ideally with all of them inside.*

    the SNP were against this

so were Corbyn and his supporters

in philosophy, an idealist is someone who subscribes to one of several loosely-related philosophies which contend that the ultimate foundation of reality is mental rather than material, or in certain formulations, that some form of mind-independent reality probably exists but the reality we know is a mental one

whereas a cynic is a dog person

    Exactly.

Repealing the Second Amendment is exactly the thing any civilized nation with this problem would be doing, but America refuses to even seriously propose that option.

    It's sickening.

i don't like the bombing either, but this is too much. the problem isn't al nusra numbers (which is "straight up al qaeda" anyway), it's that the moderates in syria, which do exist, are usually more concerned with assad than with daesh, and that the moderate forces aren't going to form some kind of cohesive government since it's a million different little groups.

well really the major problem is that bombing irregular forces isn't really effective and has been obviously ineffective since vietnam at latest but by god we're going to do it anyway. followed by that we're bombing irregulars fighting a violent fascist who's killed way more civilians but isn't a wacko islamist.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
Personally I like the part where they claim that our bombing runs on Iraq have never killed a civilian.

Assad was the original problem anyway so I think their focus is justified.  Furthermore, there's a lot more international attention on fighting Daesh.
