  • My dreams exceed my real life

    it seems rather mean to bring that up out of nowhere when the man's not even here.

    Like, I have legitimately heard them insist Randall is an abuser because he advocates ignoring racist people.
  • what counts as insight wankery anyways

    like, is it like sites with little fact tidbits that make you feel smarter like mental floss or brainpickings, because I tend to enjoy those sorts of sites
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

    It's also worth noting that Al pretends to be offended way more often than s/he is actually offended. When you keep that in mind, everything makes a lot more sense.

    Reinventing the wheel while continually congratulating yourself on how smart you are. Or taking a phrase like "Don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining" and turning it into "Do not jargonword on jargonword and jargonword jargonword, unless you don't fear Cthulhu"
  • that tells me absolutely nothing about what an insight wanker is

    I am guessing that you mean lazy postmodernist philosophy writers and the kind of people who aspire to be them.
  • well not really, but I've never really found a good way to codify my political views so they all fall out of my head in a jumbled contradictory mess

    Imagine explaining Ferguson in terms of Red/Green status signalling amongst the Brahmins, in clear ignorance of schelling points.

    No.

    What I am talking about is what happens when you have people who use logical positivism and Wittgenstein to dismiss the humanities, and then, because they assume that the critiques of LP and Wittgenstein apply only to those people over there, fall into the most heinous misuses of language, empty arguments devoid of content, and eternally tying yourself into knots over castles in the sky.

    I don't know what this means.

    Red/Green status?

    I know about Red vs. Blue but that is not what this is presumably.

    also what is a Brahmin

    and a schelling point
  • well that sounds like such a small subset of people that I can't understand why you'd be upset over it

    You honestly don't want to know the answers to any of these questions.

    Learning about none of these things will enrich your life.

    Well, actually, in normal usage, Brahmin refers to the Priest caste in traditional Hindu society, although it doesn't in that idiocy I just wrote.

    You might want to know that.

    that is actually quite interesting.

    As for the others I'll take your word for it I suppose.

    It honestly seems like you could generalise this only slightly and describe a much larger species of pretentious idiot. Like Rand being dismissive of Kant despite having lots of really skewed Kantian ideas in her work.

    WHATE’ER 1 is born of mortal birth
    Must be consumèd with the earth,
    To rise from generation free:
    Then what have I to do with thee?

    The sexes sprung from shame and pride,        5
    Blow’d in the morn; in evening died;
    But Mercy chang’d death into sleep;
    The sexes rose to work and weep.

    Thou, Mother of my mortal part,
    With cruelty didst mould my heart,        10
    And with false self-deceiving tears
    Didst bind my nostrils, eyes, and ears;

    Didst close my tongue in senseless clay,
    And me to mortal life betray:
    The death of Jesus set me free:        15
    Then what have I to do with thee?

    Wasn't there a gag like this in BTAS where Baby Doll is chasing Batman through a funhouse and she sees herself in a funhouse mirror and she looks like an adult and that makes her cry?

    I had not actually listened to any Venetian Snares before you linked that, despite being linkedDoll Doll Doll before and being told it'd probably be my thing. I'm bad about getting to music. Anyway, that's pretty groovy and I like it a fair bit.

    I am glad! It might be difficult to find an inexpensive physical copy of that one, unfortunately, but you can buy or otherwise acquire it digitally pretty easily_which is nice, seeing as it is an excellent, if exhausting listen.
    I don't tend to buy music, and haven't since I was probably in 9th grade or so, for a lot of reasons.Thankfully, Youtube and Spotify exist.
