MD Geist is neither as good, nor as bad as I was expecting.

Apparently the writer for that went on to write Kamen Rider W, presaging the TTGL guy getting brought in to write Fourze and Urobuchi for Gaim.
Looking at reviews of MD Geist took me down a rabbit hole of people getting rabidly angry about certain anime review sites and acting like twelve year olds over people's taste in anime.

It is always weird when you find one of those tiny festering wars of resentment and hatred that nobody else on the internet knows or cares about.

Diagnosis on MD Geist: basically it feels like someone described 30 Hs to some Japanese animators and they tried to recreate it in a way that wouldn't be too different from what was popular at the time.

It's not that good. Or that bad. It exists.

    Soundtrack is pretty sweet though.
I've heard that the philosophical subtext, such as it is, is really unbelievably bleak and would be kind of hard to stomach if it weren't so over-the-top.

For most of it, it just feels like the team that made it forgot to put in sympathetic characters.

The end is fairly dark though, but none of it feels like it matters because you've had 45 minutes to get to know these characters and this world, and I kind of mildly felt bad for one person who doesn't die on screen.

That makes sense. It's hard to get bitter misanthropy and nihilism right when you have no time to establish your themes and no good people to play it off of to drive it home. But that kind of attitude is hard to play straight without seeming po-faced or repulsive at the best of times.

Did you watch the whole thing or just the first OVA? Because apparently the second makes the whole package at least a little more interesting.

I;ve been playing Magic 2014, and I'm not sure I've hated any fictional character as much as I hate Chandra right now.  Cheap cheap cheap cheater, with cards named after her that do automatic damage to creatures and player, always playing a land every turn, having overpowered creatures and always drawing theexact card she needs, and her stupid card that makes one of her cards get haste that she abuses, and her stupid flying that I can't block, and I have a cruddy deck and she's overpowered and she's just a soaphole illegitimate coloradoan-washingtonian amygalaoid edisonian Williamish ohioan descriptivist kennedy-like snollygoster with all the fair play of a robber baron made of wasps glued together with melted american cheese, and she needs to be eaten and tortured and die slowly because gosh darn it your hair looks just stupid and I'm sick of your existence you flipping scrappy-doo of the planeswalkers.

I swear, I am never going to play a flying red card, a card named after Chandra, an "instant-damage to other player" an "instant damage to creature" a "sacrifice this creature to destroy artifact", a "when this creature dies, deal x damage to enemy", or a creature automatically ressurrected when you cast a spell.

First of all, if she's destroying artifacts, then you're trying to use the two Staff of the Wild Magus cards. I know you can't get rid of them until you get replacement cards, but try not to play them. They slow down the game for you, and they don't slow her down enough.

You shouldn't be having that much trouble with the phoenixes. The Garruk deck has, like, 5 anti-flyer spiders in it.

But Staff of the Magus gives me life points.

And she keeps resurrecting the phoenixes.

I can't get enough forests for anything good, and she keeps drawing lava axe
    Aliroz, listen closely.

Lifegain's generally a bad effect in Magic, unless your deck is specifically built around gaining ludicrous amounts of life and converting that into a win condition. Garruk's deck is not a life-gaining deck. It's a beat-your-opponent-up-with-creatures deck. That's its win condition. If a card doesn't contribute to that win condition, then it's just going to get in your way, and you shouldn't play it if you have another option available. (You should still play Staff of the Magus if you don't have anything else -- and I mean anything else -- that you can cast. It compels her to waste her Torch Fiends on them instead of using them to block, and the last thing you want is more blockers.

The Phoenixes can usually be taken care of with a Sentinel Spider buffed with Oakenform or Hunt the Weak. As for the rest of it, that's just a bit of luck with the draw.

Now, go and slay the planeswalker! I believe in you!

So, Phi Beta Pogo has all of the non-sunday Pogo strips of 1953, except for four that they couldn't find (as in, they couldn't find a newspaper for that day with Pogo, they couldn't find that day's Pogo strip).

Pogo was done daily from October 1948 to July 1975.

There are lots of hard-to-find Pogo collections and books, even Bill Watterson hasn't managed to collect them all.

I'm on a bit of a Pogo kick because I am borrowing some of my Uncle's Pogo books.

I'm just imagining if Calvin and Hobbes had run for 27 years like that...

Considering how huge The Complete Calvin And Hobbes is supposed to be, the hypothetical Complete Pogo would be massive.

    Just the first OVA.
It might be worth seeing the full director's cut version (which includes both OVAs) just to see if it's really all that much better. I really am curious, but I like having a trustworthy opinion beforehand.

It seems to be a relatively rare surname already, but I'm not sure if it follows that there is a town.

Although Pietromarchia would make more sense.

You know what I always found strange? People have a tendency to treat a camera as if it's a person.

For example, I've seen YouTube videos that were obviously filmed from right alongside an active railroad track as a train passes by...and people in the comments reprimand the uploader for standing in an unsafe location.

The idea that maybe he set up a camera and stepped back never seemed to occur to them.
