Having now actually watched the film
It occurs to me that part of the reason behind all the Anna/Elsa shipping on Tumblr is likely because Tumblr tends to be full of exactly the kind of people who would misinterpret the movie's climax
Not that the internet has ever needed an excuse for incestuous pairings, but this one seems especially common, so...

...Idiots?
Idiots without siblings of their own?
Idiots who are literally incapable of imagining any close relationship which isn't romantic or sexual?

I lost it when they all
Spoiler:
started running in a circle between the movie screen and "reality"
not see the thing coming where it switched from the black and white to the computer animation. I'd thought it was a long-lost forties's short.
Anyways, I USED TO HAVE A CAT ONCE, I totally understood that because I grew up with a video tape of old micky mouse cartoons from my grandma, and it had that one.

On one hand I can see it, on the other how could they be so dumb.
The entire point of the movie is that all forms of love are really important. Any kind of love can save lives. They're all legitimate.

The kind of people who make Tumblr posts about incest pairings tend to be socially inept people who don't have any real understanding of relationships and thus totally miss the finer points like the difference between platonic and romantic love.
Either that, or they just find the idea of two sisters gettin' it on hot.
Speaking of animated shorts, is it weird that I think the original 9 might have been better than the feature-length movie of the same name?
The movie entertained me, but the original was charming, and I felt that the numbers had a much greater significance there. In the movie it seems kind of random that they're numbered instead of named.
Tumblr's understanding of non-romantic situations is loose and fumbling at best. Refer to my earlier rant about Sherlock shippers turning everything into an expression of romance.

Hm.
I always figured the kinds of fandom people who get invested in shipping and mistake displays of platonic affection for indications of sexual attraction were people who were much more socially adept than me, and consequently much more interested in romantic relationships, to the point of wishing them to exist where they don't and reading them into places where they aren't meant to be.

That makes no sense. If they were adept at it, they wouldn't be so hungry for it that they'd see it in everything.
If they were adept at it, they wouldn't see the need to put it in everything.

Elsa posting on imageboards makes an amount of sense, when you think about it...she's a shut-in, of course she'd turn to the internet if such a thing existed in her era.

...that sounds like the opposite of social adeptness.

@Anonus: Not only did I see it, but I thought "Ha! I'm sure Anonus picked up on that right away!"
...but if they're not at least somewhat socially adept, why are they interested in romance at all, instead of, I dunno, gardening?
that's like the mistake that my 5th grade teacher made when she learned that my autism spectrum whatever was what was getting in the way of my socializing with people, she was all like "oh, so he just doesn't care?"

You can be interested in romance regardless of how socially adept you are. It's not some either-or thing, it just has to involve someone that really enjoys shipping.

like just think about that a bit
...I'm sorry. I don't think, and certainly never meant to imply, that people on the autism spectrum are incapable of caring about other people.
What I'm taking away from this is that social competence is relative, which I figured already. That and there's more than one kind of sex-starved nerd (as opposed to the whiny "nice guy" variety)
Which is why I said "shipping" and left it at that. I'm working on socializing more, and have dated before, but I still love all types of shipping (pairings, I note, are different) because it just really interests me. I guess I think you're kind of simplifying it, is all.
Let's dig myself deeper into the hole I've dug myself into because why not.
Being interested in romance when you can't even socialize seems to me like being interested in, I dunno, string theory when you can't do basic arithmetic.
Not wrong, not unreasonable, not something to be sneered at, but I don't understand how someone who can't do the latter can have any comprehension of, much less interest in, the former.
And I'm not talking about people on the autism spectrum, I hasten to add. People on the spectrum can learn to socialize with practice, and are obviously capable of romance.

Let me wait until the piece I'm listening to has ended and then I'll give it a watch.

Me neither.
Heh, Oswald cameo.

It's really spectacularly uncomplicated.
