I got in an argument about Kingdom Hearts the other day. Peeps thought that Kingdom Hearts 1 was easier than and inferior to Kingdom Hearts 2 (lies) and Sora and Roxas were lame protagonists (lies and slander).
High fives!
Although I think comparing KH and KHII is kind of silly. There are very few works that can be compared for relative value, and even though KH and KHII are in the same series, I don't think they can. KH was entirely functional, but KHII was slightly less functional but immensely more ambitious. I see that a lot in series, really. I can rank the KH games in groups, though:
More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Miko and Byakuren are meeting again? :o lucky bitches!
*pat pat* ...we live together, actually. ^_^;
Nintendo had a lot of peripherals, but at least they were mostly good. The Super GameBoy and GBA Player were great, the Zapper was iconic, the Rumble Pak was weird as hell but it was also surprisingly good, and the GBA/Gamecube cable was used very well in Four Swords Adventures.
All of those peripherals share two common features that are detractors for me: 1) there is little to no value considering that they cost money, and 2) they are not compatible with a PC. :o

obligatory mention of my desire to live with Anonus goes here
Sometimes I worry I fucked up by transferring to OSU since that will kinda anchor me to Columbus for a couple more years :\

Tier I: KH, KHII, 358/2 Days
Tier II: CoM
Tier III: re:c, BBS, DDD
Define functional.
Succeeds in matters of character consistency, dramatic principles, and achieves what is attempting to achieve.
KHII fell on its face at times but also soared quite high when it got really good. And while it did codify certain flaws the series would go on to repeat time and time again (like decimating the agency of the Disney and Final Fantasy characters), it also introduced quite a bit of good stuff, like Roxas. Man, I really do love Roxas's character a lot.

For Christmas 1991, (former) Princess Meredith decided to write Sir Ralph and his family a heartfelt letter expressing her appreciation for all he'd done for her over the years.
Unfortunately, she wrote the entire thing in French, a language Sir Ralph doesn't know how to read.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Incidentally, though, I don't understand why Johnny Test gets hated on for being loud and obnoxious and trying-too-hard-to-be-funny
I have some vague memories of another Canadian show called Yakkety Yak...it was a Flashtoon produced by Studio B (who would go on to do My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic), which I remember cramming all kinds of "inherently funny" shit into the show (e.g. one of the title character's friends, Keo, had a pineapple for a head, there were "network bigwigs" with literal big wigs) but having generally weak writing.

...Whoa, I have the vaguest memories of that. I never watched it, but my siblings sometimes did because, well, bored kids on summer vacation sometimes resort to Nicktoons Network filler.
KHII, for me, can be summed up with the reaction button. On the one hand, it allowed you to do cool stuff, and when done well, it added good variety to a fight. On the other hand, it turned some battles into a triangle-smashing fest, and boss battles turned into extended cutscenes rather than true tests of skill (save for boss battles that had few reactions, like the Dragoon Guy, which were hard as a thing that is hard).
Honestly I think gameplay concerns should run secondary to concerns of narrative in games driven by narrative (although the reaction button did sort of detract from the gameplay at points, certainly). Yes, I just said that, go ahead and mock me, Miko.
And like, that game is actually a very interesting experiment in player-crafted narrative and how different people can create vastly different experiences given a relatively simple set of mechanics, but it's rather limiting to imply that it's all the medium should do. It'd be like saying that films should have no soundtracks or dialogue because that would make them "too musical" or "too much like a book."

you really do often come across as actively wanting people to be angry at you.

Honestly that was just me trying to prepare myself because I don't want to get into a bitter nasty argument over that particular thing.

Then I just smile and go on playing. Because, frankly speaking, without context, a lot of games become very, very boring.
because video game music is hella lame #shotsfired
Where your eyes don't go
a filthy scarecrow waves its broomstick arms
And does a parody of each unconscious thing you do
When you turn around to look it's gone behind you
On its face it's wearing your confused expression
Where your eyes don't go

All told though I find a lot of the time people gush about VGM and I don't understand why.
