    !
  • His next tape already has a title and cover though (Beautiful Pimp 2) but he might use it for one after that.

    Or he just appreciates wordplay.

Also dude doesn't follow me on twitter so we can add him to the list of rappers who apparently google themselves. Better him than Bishop Nehru though, that was awkward as hell.
  • woke up at a #reasonabletime this morning
  • To all the producers constantly asking what monitors/ gear / programs we use to produce- the answer is- it doesn't really matter what you use- its how you use it- and the final outcome - the finished track. Some people we know have all the 'best' most expensive gear and still can't produce for shit. Others we know have very basic setups and make outstanding music. Its often those that argue on the internet that one program is better than the other or whom debate whose speakers are better that can't produce very well.
  • I think the best production advice I have ever recieved was to keep in mind that most people listen to music through tinny earbuds.
  • ugh earbuds are groooosss
  • I think the best production advice I have ever recieved was to keep in mind that most people listen to music through tinny earbuds.

    this is true

i remember reading somewhere that the best way to tell if you have a good mixdown is by playing it over the shittiest car stereo you can get your hands down

if it still rocks, you're good to go
  • well

not gross but generally I can't bring myself to wear them

    I have standards, dammit
  • my little sister has sennheiser earbuds that are pretty decent
  • I use bad wal-mart headphones for all of my production because they are the only pair that I own.

Thus I think that how my music sounds to me is pretty indicative of how it would sound to the average Bandcamp listener.

frustrating as it is to not be able to hear something because your speakers are too crappy i can't help but feel producers shouldn't see this as reason to limit themselves

    You're misunderstanding.

Basically a lot of producers put entirely too much time and thought into sound quality optimization, things like very precise mixing and having lots of high-end equipment and what not. The simple fact is that little of this is even audible to the average consumer, so it's best to not worry about it.
  • I remember when Sam Truth showed me two different mixes of "Diamonds" I couldn't tell them apart.
  • which "Diamonds," the Rihanna song?

    it's not limiting

it's that the ideal mixdown will sound "good", no matter how shitty or good your method of playback is

no the Sam Truth song "Diamonds".

Which I think he's since abandoned unfortunately.
  • ah, okay

sorry, I'm not familiar with his stuff
  • Honestly I'm not either. He's been producing for half as long as I have and he's significantly better than me and he's also been getting a lot of blog coverage recently. Love the dude, but I don't need more reasons to feel bad about myself.
  • Honestly I don't listen to many other rap producers any more, really. Flying Lotus and Clams Casino are about it.
  • god I hate "Pipes of Astra-Khan" so much now.

I don't trust the US government and it has been proven many times that they do evil things and try to hide them.

    Hi people

    I guess I'm up now

Lately my sleep tends to come in the form of two four-hour segments...it's a little weird, but it works, I guess...

I trust the US government and governments in general very little, but I trust wannabe revolutionaries even less.

I would like Anonymous's vision of the future... if they didn't focus most of their attention of late on piracy and console modding. >_>

hmm this music is nice. :)
  • Anonymous has no vision for the future because it is not an organization.

I should stop putting off my first online class, it starts today and I am supposed to log in.

    go go go~
  • The whole Anonymous thing is also mostly middle class white kids who are bored and want revolution because they think it's cool, not because they actually care about issues beyond ones that affect them directly (ie. piracy, internet legislation, and little else).

god I hate "Pipes of Astra-Khan" so much now.

    why?
  • Admittedly, sometimes I get so caught up in arguments and conversations, I forget to question whether or not the foundation is even stable.

I downloaded my syllabuses (syllabi?) for Spring Semester yesterday, since they were finally available on Blackboard.

I like to have some idea of what I can expect before I head into the classroom, you know?
