  • I drew some Centralia freeway signs because I was bored, that's why

    I approve of this signage

i totally forgot i was using metric when i made that last one

    Anyway, have some speed limits:

    km? how unAmerican
  • -5 points and -10 schoolchildren, units lacking on the last sign

I approve of this signage, especially since it has now been discovered that Glennton is part of Centralia.

    unBritish too! :D

Yeah, I need to redraw that one. It ought to be taller so I can arrange the information better...
  • metric is better than an imperial and even as a card carrying british Person i accept this. because ive had so many people attempt to explain the old system of pence, and shillings, and guineas, and pounds, and threepenny bits (which were not actually worth three pence)

and ive come to the conclusion it was fucking illogical and impossible to understand and hooray for europe for giving us a sensible thing like the metric system

That would be my Anonus, of course! ^_^

He wouldn't appreciate me posting his first name, so I used his last name. :P

Imperial is illogical but I can actually use it with stuff bigger than a cell and smaller than a country.

I've always found it amusing that we Americans call our smallest coin a "penny" when our currency is called cents and not pence.

(Its official name is the "cent" or the "one cent piece", but nobody would ever call it that; it's a "penny")

I do have to give America credit for getting the whole decimal currency thing right as early as 1792, even if we're still refusing the metric system in 2014

    ...?

Seems like a pretty sensible thing to me. Metric is useful for scientific measurements and whatnot but Imperial correlates to actual stuff.

No, Metric is fine for anything. You're just more used to Imperial--which is fine, but to claim one is somehow useful only for "science stuff" is just bizarre.

That wasn't my thought originally. Someone else here brought it up first and I just happened to agree.

They were better back in the day, at least in my opinion.

Self-righteous slacktivism, especially at the expense of another goal that some group is trying to work for, is one thing that consistently bothers me. This is nothing new, and I know it's not something I should let get to me, but it happens. "Ur doin X rong, idiots! Do Y for [different pet fixation] for me instead, the SMART way!" is just… ugh.

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
America doesn't even use Imperial, we use a bastardized form of it.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Fahrenheit: Rate the weather outside on a scale of 0-100. 0 is really fucking cold, 100 is really fucking hot. If it's colder you're going to die. If it's hotter you're going to die. Easy!
Cups: I'd like a cup of milk! Wow that was easy, you didn't even have to break out a graduated cylinder or a scale.
Teaspoon: One teaspoon of salt vs... goddamn it I have to pull out the scale again.
Miles: Because kilometers make you sound like a pussy.
Foot: It's as long as your foot. How long is a meter anyway? I have no goddamn idea.
Horsepower: It's as strong as a fucking horse. If you have 2 of them, it's as strong as two horses. Get the fuck out of here with your watts, no one gives a shit what the strength of your engine is in relation to how hot a similar amount of energy would heat a cup of water.

The Metric system: Hasn't put a man on the fucking moon.

    > Foot: It's as long as your foot

    except it's actually way longer.
  • edited 2014-01-09 17:38:20
Which, the unit of measurement or actual feet? Because even if my feet aren't exactly a foot I find it easy to describe it as being in the ballpark of a foot long. Also, Imperial divides better. Maybe if the metric system  was dodecimal I might like it more.
  • Also:

Watt: 40 of these is dim.  60 is okay.  100 is bright.  If you have CFLs, 10 is dim, 15 is okay, 20 is bright.  Your microwave uses like 1000 at once, which is why it dims the lights when you turn it on.

Also, the real reason for preferring miles is that highway speed is 60 MPH which means you're going one mile every minute.  In town speed is 30 MPH which means you're going half a mile every minute.  Lets you know how far you're going.

^ I'm rebutting it because I can, nothing against you.

Hi there, after looking at your collection of poetry, we decided to go with "Stump", and have included it  on our site today - http://dagdapublishing.co.uk/2014/01/07/stump/ - I hope this email finds you well, and please do not hesitate to send us more poetry soon. Have a good day.
    Hah, so this happened.

It's kind of funny. On the one hand, I'm now published by something besides a school newspaper or an anthology for young writers. On the other hand, they picked the weakest poem out of the five I sent them (imho), and I'm frankly baffled by the commentary they put on it.

    Kafkaesque? Really?
    *hugs* :)
