I find it sort of interesting that the two songs that immediately pop into my head when I think of that band are a silly ditty about insomnia and a break-up song only slightly less vicious than The Mountain Goats' "No Children".

reading old irc logs is fun

(01:06:22 AM) CentralAve: So in my dream I opened two tabs containing blog posts
(01:06:29 AM) CentralAve: And I woke up before I got the chance to read them :(
    (01:06:50 AM) Anonus: aww :(
    (01:07:58 AM) Section42L: :<
(01:09:32 AM) CentralAve: Also I was in a high school and complained loudly about a staircase that was at a slight angle to the room it was placed in
(01:09:59 AM) CentralAve: I was all like "I've got nothing against things not being straight *wink wink* but this staircase is at an angle of like π/6 radians to the wall and there's really no reason for that"
(01:10:06 AM) CentralAve: Dream Avenue talks funny
(01:10:16 AM) Nitya: that does sound annoying tbh.

I cannot totally hate a site that has Ursula Vernon on it.

I can hate the culture of nigh-wilful artistic incompetence that surrounds it, though.

it's not the crappy art of users that is deviantart's problem

it is their willful and deliberate abuse of artists.

This is also very true, although the two do dovetail in many ways.

More like repulsive and faintly infuriating. Certain types of horror can be beautiful, but the petty horrors rarely are. Funny (sometimes) when they befall the deserving, but when the victim is undeserving... no.

lol the things Squeenix gets away with. They literally just took the almost equally lazy 1999 port and slapped it on Steam. Except it is even lazier because they couldn't be bothered to upgrade the music from the awful .midi versions or upscale the movies properly or I dunno not try to disguise low resolutions with blur filters?

btw I am not talking from personal experience because I am happy sticking to the Playstation version. :3

oh and gosh, they could have *at least* updated the controls to a less outdated format/standard.

lol technically I can play Final Fantasy 7 and 8 on PC anyway, with emulator + discs, which is not that illegal really since I have a PS2 still. It says something about Squeenix that fans always preferred emulating the Playstation versions on their PCs to playing the PC versions.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
but ummm lol I haven't played either game in years and I played them both wayy to much when I was younger so I will not play them again maybe :p

im pretty sure that rayman has become better over time

come to think of it, that's not something you can say for a lot of franchises.

hard to say, i haven't played the latest releases but i think i'd rate The Great Escape as a better game than Hoodlum Havoc, tho that was also good
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch

I've found that this applies heavily to Ghilbifilms, though I think it works better for them than for most films.

Ghilbi has a way of appealing to fairytale logic in their films, in that some things happen because they're just supposed to happen or because that's just how things are. The general focus in fairytales is more on what happens rather than how or why it happens. That allows them to get away with things like, say, the turnip-headed scarecrow showing up out of nowhere in Howl's Moving Castle.

you know i was thinking the other day about how despite being based on fairy tales, Disney movies tend to feel less fairy-tale-like than Ghibli movies

Disney movies feel like Disney movies regardless of subject matter

as for Feynman i think he could be an entertaining speaker but he could be an ass about women as well

and no it wasn't just Spinoza, on several occasions he made comments dismissive of any and all philosophy of science, and philosophy in general

he did play the bongos tho, that's true

i think the most interesting clip i've seen of him was him describing the period of depression he went thru following the development of the bomb; he apparently believed everything was pointless and that people were mad to invest time in anything because it would all be over soon

i can't really summarize it but it was something to hear

The way I see it, there are terrible people everywhere and everywhen. If you actively do something to mitigate their terribleness, that's great. But if all you do is get sad or angry about them, then you're letting them beat you, and that's terrible.
  • So, it turns out that other countries don't need to refrigerate their eggs. America's the only major egg-refrigerator because the way we clean eggs is so cruddy that we need to freeze 'em to stave off bacterial infection.

    Seriously, why
