SA has a lot of interesting, informative threads (including one about being trans that I have found helpful). TVT is... not really like that at all. Also I'm p. sure the webmaster doesn't ban people for even the slightest thought that is contrary to the webmaster's opinion/ego?
SA most likely has better administrative methodology than TVT. But on the other hand if I went to SA I would definitely feel the need to tread lightly and be very wary of others' perceptions of me, whereas I can go to TVT and just relax and enjoy myself as long as I don't say anything too insane.

Anyhow, as far as I can tell, there are enough goons who advertise their being goons along with an irritating attitude of smugness that they spoil the entire barrel for everyone else. It's true that not all SA folks are jerks, and there are quite a few even among us who are examples of that.
But just as I no longer identify myself as a troper, because the term has come to be associated with some less-than-savory things, I don't find myself readily wanting to associate with a community with a strong reputation of reveling in smugness. Hell, I'm more likely to find myself giving smug jerks the finger (regardless of their origin).

Make no mistake, I don't completely enjoy a lot of the conversations on TVTF either. Like, the RWBY thread right now, there's a ton of just fans generally going nuts over...well, I'm supposed to be working on something else right now and my head already hurts (metaphorically) so I don't feel like coming up with the term but suffice it to say that I'm really not interested in all those crossover ideas and whatnot and the endless speculation.
But I just end up glossing over most of it, and if I really want to express my opinions, I open up notepad and start writing up a gigantpost taking apart people's points if I really feel the need. Because at least they don't fee, to me, like they're purposely trying to weed me out for being a newb, and I can be similarly charitable to newbies myself when I'm no longer one.

but yeah, TL;DR: SA has a reputation for containing a lot of smug jerks, and even if not everyone is a smug jerk, I wouldn't really enjoy attempting to hang out with them, and I can get my meaningful conversation from elsewhere, in social contexts I find more comfortable. Such as some of my bookmarked threads on TVT, on a good day. Or IJBM, typically. Or here, for that matter, when we're not shitposting...then again we are a lot of the time.
