Eh, Dan needs a crony, and Chris works because he's such a hapless pushover. Mr. Mumbles is really only good for a laugh when she rolls over and gets Dan to forgive her after she didn't help with this or that. It would get old after a while.

Elise can be a bit over the top, but she works really well as a tool to keep the story going where Dan and Chris would be in over their heads, otherwise. She's also a good source for when Dan needs to be physically stopped because he's going to perform an action that would irreparably damage the world (like him nuking the whole planet).

Love 'em, or hate 'em, they part of the expertly crafted tale that can freely travel in any direction it wants. At the very least, if they where removed they'd have to be replaced with someone or something else, and I can't think of anything that would be better, per se.

i didn't like Elise much but she's definitely growing on me. i can't really picture the show without Chris, though.

i think Dan Vs The Family Camping Trip proved that Chris really isn't such a bad guy. He clearly has his heart in the right place.

Chris is a fairly decent human being. He's just easy to manipulate. Though, even then he tends to have some limits of what he's willing to do.

Yes, so much yes.

The entire show is basically a monument to subverting expectations.

As I mentioned, initially, I assumed Dan was just going to be an ineffectual dude with a bit of a napoleon complex, but he's scarily good at getting what he wants more often than not.

Also I agree with the straight man assessment whole-heartedly.

Nerd alert, fan-fiction musing: This makes writing him against Pinkie Pie interesting because they have to take turns being straight man. Though this can break down hilariously with them playing off each-other until they're both besieging a restaurant with a medieval looking pancake thrower.

This show is pretty consistently high quality as well.

There's a couple that are probably a little too strange for their own good, but otherwise every episode is solid.

I've watched the first few episodes and the only one that didn't do anything for me was Dan vs the Ninja. Other than that, it's been pretty fun.

Yeah, that was my favorite moment in the episode. As for moments that show a slightly softer side of Dan, I really like the moment between Dan and Chris in the glacier in Dan vs Canada. That was surprisingly sweet.

I can't really think of any moments like that, off hand. But he sort of does.

As mentioned, Dan has no friends aside from Chris. He doesn't seem to have any family that cares about him either.

Chris has sort of proven he's the only person who will stick with him through anything, and he also keeps Dan out of trouble somewhat.

Without Chris, Dan would need someone else to fill that gap. And aside from the occasional hobo Dan conscripts into his scheme, there's not exactly anyone lining up to be "new Chris".

That artist makes some really cute pictures of them together. That one's my favorite. Makes me wonder where they're at if it's snowing. Definitely wouldn't be SoCal, where Dan lives.

That one took me a while to find because it wasn't on the artist's deviant art page, it was on the page of someone who seems to mostly ship Dan with his rule 63 counterpart...

Which I still find less disturbing than shipping him with his impostor.

I think it's the lighting, perhaps a bit too much shadows under the eyes.

Other than that, I thought it was a pretty handsome rendering of Chris.

Edit: Also, looking at Chris's shoulders, I think they're angle is a tad extreme for a human. Certainly more than they are in the cartoon below the picture.
