Avenue it wasn't that great. ^_^; The best part of Homestuck fandom in my opinion was the end of act 5!!! It was a relatively innocent and fun time.
End of Act 5? Heh, I was there for that one, actually! I remember it taking down both MSPA and Newgrounds, and I had to wait around until I could find a working copy of the flash on Megaupload or something.
Also I coincidentally managed to time it so that I finished watching right at 4:13 AM.
although Ray, you're right, it wasn't all that great
some of the fan reaction to trickster mode was kinda fun but i don't think the uglier side of the fandom was ever more apparent
Point. It was bad enough with the way the drama spilled over into #trashheap; I can't imagine how annoyed I would have been had I been actively following the comic at the time.

I guess I should clarify that nobody in #th was actually being racist, or even particularly obnoxious. It's just that some people disagreed on the finer points of whether Hussie and/or certain bloggers were in the right, and it led to some hurt feelings.

I don't actively follow the fandom--though I did attend that Homestuck panel at Ohayocon--but I get exposed to it a lot through Tumblr.
i am currently beating myself up for not catching up on Homestuck sooner, because Trickster Mode happened and so did the events immediately following it and I MISSED OUT ON IT I CAN'T EVER GO BACK AND BE PART OF THAT FUN
i'm just...bfearpi8hywq4er.
It really wasn't that fun. Around that time, I'd regularly trawl the homestuck tags on Tumblr. There were a few good jokes that came out the whole business, but 80% of the fandom was either complaining about Trickster Mode or complaining about the people who were complaining about Trickster Mode. (I don't remember the ugliness crossing over into the Heap, tho).
I'm not going to go on a rant about the implications of the CAUCASIAN joke again, but I will say that the joke would have been pretty dated if Hussie let it stay.
The running gag started with Con Air. Then Vriska was advised to watch Con Air, which made her obsessed with Nick Cage. Now Nick Cage shows up every few months to leer creepily at us, regardless of Vriska's presence.
But yeah, I've already been part of the wretched hive that is Tumblr for 4 years and it's actually made me saner over time, so Reddit can't be that bad by comparison.

“Do you know, Watson,” said he, “that it is one of the curses of a mind with a turn like mine that I must look at everything with reference to my own special subject. You look at these scattered houses, and you are impressed by their beauty. I look at them, and the only thought which comes to me is a feeling of their isolation and of the impunity with which crime may be committed there.”
I know I'm reading too much into this but that sounds a lot like someone with Asperger's syndrome.
Or at least, it describes me and Anonus...always seeing things through the lens of our obsessive interests...

Also, admittedly a big part of why I feel like I "missed out" on the whole Trickster thing is that Anonus built it up as the coolest thing ever.
Of course, he expressed a desire to go Trickster, too, so I kinda suspect he missed the point.
Sherlock having Asperger's syndrome seems to be a common theory.
In the BBC Sherlock, he claims to be a sociopath, but he doesn't behave like one so i think that was a writing goof. Possibly a particularly unfortunate one, if Asperger's is a more accurate diagnosis.

I've never seen Elementary, but I admit the casting of a female Watson bothered me at first, since it seemed like a cheap way of injecting heteronormativity into the obligatory Holmes/Watson pairing.
'Course, I realized afterwards that it's likely they just did it as a way to distinguish their take from the BBC's Sherlock.
So, in conclusion, I should watch the show before I draw an opinion of it. #ineedahashtaghere #butidontknowwhichonefits

(it's just that the fandom was a lot more fun in the act 5 era)
i'm not sure what my favourite act is, but my feelings on acts 5 and 6 are mixed.

Lucy Liu as Watson seems an unusual casting choice.
^ It would kind of have to be.
He does quit, though.
