I technically read about half of the first volume, but that was a while ago.
I really love graphic novels as a medium, but I read very few of them. I'm not precisely sure why this is. Maybe it's because whenever I walk into a comic book store, I suddenly feel insufficiently geeky.
"whenever I walk into a comic book store, I suddenly feel insufficiently geeky"
I sure know this feeling. There's a comic book store just down the road from me, but I've only been in it once because I felt overwhelmed by the geek vibes.
I've read the first two volumes in color. They're occasionally in stock at the college's merch/bookstore, and they don't mind if anyone takes them out.
I'd say that the naturalism is more common than the surrealism, but I agree with 42L.
Also, "Home on De-Nile" is so obviously from a composite NTSC source that it hurts. It seems they worked from cheapest available materials for these sets, and some of the episodes were on Betacam SP or D1 or something, and others were on U-matic. :P

Is that the one where the Egyptians try to sacrifice Rita
Also I'm not as videophilic as you are, sadly :(
As for Eva
The only Gainax shows I've seen are TTGL and PSG, neither all the way through

Watch FLCL. It's loads of fun, the animation is great, and the message is surprisingly coherent and straightforward when you give it a little thought.
"The opening line of the song, "I saw the best minds of my generation/destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical..." comes from the opening line of Allen Ginsberg's epic poem, Howl. According to Pat Dillett in Podcast 27A: The poet graciously gave permission for the band to quote the poem, and in a gesture that harkens back to a simpler time, asked for nothing in return."
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Oh shut the fuck up, you dolt. What I meant was nobody has conveyed to me why it's supposed to be any better than good ole "reverse racism" or "revenge racism".

Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead
