I wasn't really surprised about the ban itself, considering I've been somewhat dismissive of Fast Eddie in the past (in a thread where he insulted me, mind you), but what surprised me was that apparently he instantly dismissed me as a troll. I mean, Bobby G recognized I had been on there way too long to be a troll.
This is just....Eddie is banning people who did nothing but speak up now. It's like reading Homestuck and watching all the trolls die. :P
I still wonder when Eddie will decide the forums themselves aren't worth hosting and effectively force everyone over here or to IJBM2, while the Wiki turns into a bad imitation of Tumblr.
Well, in the sense that "this wiki now has to bend to my whims and no one can edit it but mods now". So more like one of those corporate sorta-wikis or IMDb.
Still, I think the forum's days may be numbered. I think Eddie has always seen the forum as an adjunct to the discussion pages, not a general forum. Now he has to deal with people who might be talking about things he doesn't like in ways he thinks are "tacky", and I don't think he's up to it.

@lee4hmz: I've always thought Fast Eddie isn't really into the site any more. I mean, he's in his 50's, for Christ's sake. Janitor isn't around anymore and Gus is dead. I think it's mostly a problem of finding someone to succeed him.
OTC is the one part of the forums I wouldn't miss if it were shut down.
Then again, if it were shut down, the spillover into YF may well kill it, too.
And orcus: You're probably right. I came to the theory myself that the behavioral crackdown may not be entirely because he hates trolls, but because he may be looking to sell the site and doesn't want to scare away investors, but the idea is the same: I think he's just sick of it.
@Lee, the site isn't very sellable anyway. The rep TVT has is basically a site full of racist homophobic transphobic,misogynistic man children who engage in rape and paedophilia and/or are rape and paedophilia apologists.
