Wonderful, the drama is still going in certain places in YF. Now I'm worried that Eddie will "shut this shit down" and make the TVT forums business-only (i.e. Trope Talk, Wiki Talk, Special Efforts and TRS) -- forcing pretty much everything else out to IJBM2 or here, because no one around here has the money to put up a dedicated YF/WB/media Vanilla server. :P
I just read the banning policy and "unban me plx" threads in Frequently Asked Questions and argh. Sometimes, as much of a clusterfuck as it was, I really miss Usenet because people could just bicker and let it out without the mods being all paternalistic about it.
Which is not to say I oppose moderation in general...it just seems like TVT is getting really pushy about it now.

I hate how Tumblr lets people change their domains but doesn't notify their followers in any way. I end up with these names I don't recognize on my dash and I'm like "wait, when the hell did I start following this person?"

I'm attempting to clean my room now.
It serves something of a dual purpose: The cable guy is coming tomorrow and I want it to be neat, and also I tend to clean my room a few days before Christmas anyway. It's a yearly ritual of mine that dates back to when Mother would insist we all clean our bedrooms "so we can have room for what Santa will bring us."

WordPress.com is a bit like vanillaforums.com in that as long as you're willing to pay, they will pretty much give you all the customization you'd ever want.
Of course, if you have the knowledge and resources, you could always self-host and have unlimited customization options, but you wouldn't get the support you'd get with WordPress.com, which is probably what makes it such an attractive option for companies like CBS.
Holy hell, hard drive prices are through the roof now. A 1TB drive that used to cost $99 is $250 now. It's bad enough now that tape is looking good again. In fact, I JUST BOUGHT A FUCKING TAPE DRIVE OMG.
SSDs are not quite ready for prime-time, mainly because SandForce are bastards on the level of Adaptec or Broadcom and refuse to fix anything. If I get an SSD, it'll be from someone who'd using their own controller, most likely Samsung.

So for some reason my mind has viewed "[Company Name]'s Bluegrass Adventure", an amusement park that would be located off I-75 in Kentucky.
AU: Years ago, back in the 1980s, they made add-in cards that'd let you do exactly that. I forget how much stuff you could fit on a tape, but I'm sure it was ridiculous for the time (a gigabyte or so).
Also, yeah, tape drives were around even before hard drives were common. The big old 9-track ones are also incredibly photogenic, so much so that they showed up in movies to show that "HEY THIS IS A COMPUTER AND IT'S DOING SOMETHING IMPORTANT" well into the 1980s. Now, pretty much all tape drives are cartridge drives, and aren't any more interesting-looking than a VCR. Unless, of course, you're like me and think VCRs are neat...
draco: It may be a while. The hard drive companies are using the floods in Thailand as an excuse to jack up prices considerably. It's not quite to the point where SSD is as cost-effective (a $250 1 TB drive is still much cheaper than the equivalent amount of SSDs), but it's still kind of shocking when you consider just how much of the PC world today is dependent on cheap, readily-available drives.
I remember the early 1990s, when "about a buck a meg" was considered a stellar deal. At that rate, a 1TB drive would cost about $953,674.32. So we've still come a long way.

What should be the name of the company that owns/operates Bluegrass Adventure?

For some reason I'm looking over the specs of the digital camera I'm getting for Christmas.
It has an electronic viewfinder. I wonder if that's actually any easier to use than the huge LCD screen.

^Hee hee, their Eridan doesn't sound like the one in my head. He sounds less "royal" and more whiny somehow.
(He has an account here, but never comes around here now.)

I imagine this will get a lot of use.

Also it appears the CBS O&O sites run on WordPress VIP.
