So I just got back from a showing of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at the Ohio Theatre.

It's a very pretty theatre. They don't allow photography inside, but I got a couple cameraphone shots of the exterior, I'll upload 'em in a minute.

Before the movie the organist played a bunch of songs from other movies... "Flashdance", "Beauty and the Beast", "Eye of the Tiger" and "Gonna Fly Now"...oh, and the theme from E.T.

It was a lot of fun.

^Any theater with a live organist is the best theater. No exceptions.

imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
My mum commandeered my laptop to listen to iPlayer, but she has gone to bed now.

I certainly can, there was a Cracked article on absurd things they did to prepare for the Olympics written yesterday.

I am very upset that London currently hosts a wall bigger than The Berlin Wall, and one that serves less of a purpose.

Well, that's a whole other matter, but yeah, it's pretty alarming.  I'm glad I don't live in London right now.  I wonder how long they're planning on keeping the new cameras and the anti-aircraft turrets there; seems like a lot of expense to go to just for the games.

S0, what y0u are saying is that what was represented wasn't Britain, but the theme park versi0n 04 Britain.

    Yes, exactly.

    N0ah Webster was a plagiarist, a 4raud, a very 0pini0nated man wh0se rants were taken seri0usly and inc0rp0rated int0 the language, s0 basically he's the pers0n I wanted t0 be.

He was a reformist, whereas if I recall correctly you're more of a conservative prescriptivist, a position I have somewhat more sympathy for.

But he was a heck of a successful reformist. I'm sorry if I offended you by talking about him before, but I didn't mean anything insulting.

Is it strange that my favorite part of the opening ceremony was the glowing tribute to universal healthcare with the glowing beds and the legion of nannies?

It was pretty well choreographed. For hospital workers, they didn't do a bad job.

I haven't seen it, but Friday and I where just discussing today how her last dentist in England was technically just a student and didn't exactly do a stellar job on her teeth.

I'm sure it has more "pros" than "cons" when put up against America's current health care, but there's plenty of room for improvement.

    Sorry to hear it.

Dentistry here isn't actually fully socialized; being a British citizen doesn't entitle you to free NHS dental care and the best dentists tend not to be NHS.

(also, da parday bus in the heapette adventure is making me kinda happy)

Yay! I'm glad; I kinda wondered how you'd feel about that but I couldn't resist including it.
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
JZ's stomach is the lava pit oubliette. I know this from personal experience.

CA: Holy cow. I would not have guessed that was a movie theater if I saw it out of context.

there aren't many wolves in lava pits, i think

I love this song but it's so depressing, especially since it actually happened to Rivers.

Basically he meets a girl who he really clicks with but then he notices the pink triangle she wears on her sleeve. And it turns out after the events of the song Rivers actually could've gotten with her, but by the time he'd found out she wasn't gay it was too late.

God, Pinkerton is such a good album.

just want you all to know, this is probably the most metal video game cover ever

probably has one of the most metal names too

@Gator: It's not just a movie theater--I've seen plays and symphonies there before--but they show old movies there during the summer.

Here's some pictures I snapped. Not gonna bother dragging up the other thread because they're not that good:

To be honest, I didn't expect you to take the comment about Shichibukai kindly, but my position hasn't changed and I see no point in sugarcoating it or lying about it.  I certainly don't see reason to suspect any "miasma" in my supposition that somebody approvingly quoting Stormfront and infamous racist speeches by Enoch Powell was himself racist. I did not think you would knowingly expect us to tolerate racism, or indeed Islamophobia.

I'm sorry for making assumptions about the nature of your friendship, however. That was wrong of me, and I apologize.

Imi: Because it is Saturday, and Saturday is a day for staying up late.

CA: Huh, cool. The contrast between the outside of the theater and the inside is very interesting to me. Then again, my reference point is the Fox Theatre, which has a giant neon light sign on the main entrance.

Do that all the time, am worried that it's kind of a crutch for me. I don't think most TV clients (which I hope to have someday) would take kindly to it; they want all sorts of shiny effects. I wanted to go back to the '90s and do something a bit warmer and more tactile-looking, but I'd have to learn how to do that.
