You know, no-one complains about your continuous spelling flubs and overuse of "tbh".

Say what you want, but your posts are often more irritating to read than Ozzy's or Aliroz's.

What spelling flubs? That shouldn't the case since I got a spell checker addon for FF.

-moved site to heapette.tumblr.com (spinoff from Heapers' Hangout Tumblr, or an assimilation of it, if you will)

-installed MSPA Tumblr theme, modified it to actually act as a front page for the site (thank you Teyuss, Hussie)

-Added /latest redirect for those of us who want to read the newest pages without binging the whole archive at once

-Got rid of a few /heapette tags where they're not needed (all pages from now on will simply be /0xxx rather than

/heapette0xxx, since the URL already has the "heapette" in it and it makes my job a little easier)

    -Removed Herobrine

And aw, I'm really glad so many people are having fun with the Zestpoole adventure. ^_^

Dunno about Fighteer (if so, I wouldn't let it get to you; it's really not that difficult to piss him off), but I don't dislike you and I'm not particularly bothered by you. I don't even know you all that well.  We've barely spoken, and seldom outside mod stuff.  I remember thumping you like once, but it wasn't personal or anything.

If it's about the Shichibukai thing, I understand that he was a friend of yours, and perhaps you never saw the bad side of him.  I don't hold any grudge against you over that, whether or not you hold one against me.

I gather I'm also on your list of descriptivist tropers (not sure how serious you are about that?).  If so, guilty as charged I guess, although I'm far from being a devotee of Noah Webster, whatever impression I may have created.

The thing is... yes, self-effacement and irony and such are a big part of the British sense of humour, I understand that.  But it's like, you know the bit with the Queen and James Bond, for instance?  That was funny, and it made me laugh.  But it was absolutely astonishing.  I mean, for the Queen to even participate in that, was astonishing.  And there was a self-effacing aspect to it, and a really ludicrous absurdity.  I think the absurdity will have carried, but I think there's a real danger the rest didn't.  One of our oldest and most prestigious traditions was basically stripped of its dignity and ceremony, and turned into a pantomime for the rest of the world to giggle at.

And that's how I felt about much of the ceremony, like Mr. Bean sabotaging Simon Rattle and "Abide With Me" being given to a pop singer who couldn't even sing it right (hell, Susan Boyle would have been more appropriate).

It was nice that pop culture got celebrated, obviously, but there's more to Britain than that, and in any case, it was a very sanitized and stereotypical version of pop culture that got represented.  It was nice that the NHS and the steelworks were celebrated, but juxtaposing that with the villification of the Industrial Revolution and the patronizing Victorian pastoral imagery made that ring pretty hollow.  We're not cute and we're not a joke.  We have plenty of talented dancers and singers in this country; I don't understand why we opted for dancing NHS workers in period dress.

If you enjoyed the opening ceremony, great.  I wouldn't want to take that away from anybody.  I also enjoyed parts of it very much.  But the Olympics are about being the best, and what we chose to show the world was a showcase of mediocrity and mundanity, wrapped up in the trappings of Merry England, and if you can't see why that would bother me as a Brit, then honestly, that's exactly what I was afraid of.
  • I certainly can, there was a Cracked article on absurd things they did to prepare for the Olympics written yesterday.

I am very upset that London currently hosts a wall bigger than The Berlin Wall, and one that serves less of a purpose.

S0, what y0u are saying is that what was represented wasn't Britain, but the theme park versi0n 04 Britain.

    N0ah Webster was a plagiarist, a 4raud, a very 0pini0nated man wh0se rants were taken seri0usly and inc0rp0rated int0 the language, s0 basically he's the pers0n I wanted t0 be.

We forgot to mention that the next part of the punishment was Stardust turning himself into a panther and chasing the rats all the way to the FBI's head office.
I like how Stardust thinks this is doing them a favor.

"Yeah, great, a bunch of rats being chased by a panther...We'll just call up the FBI Panther wrangler, break out a bunch of rat cages, start IDing them, and bring them up on charges...Oh. you say everone else has been turned into water and melted? I'm sure we'll have no trouble extracting their DNA from the giant bad-guy puddle. Thanks A LOT, ASS!"

I guess it's better than the whole US being blown up by super tanks and giant bombers, but wrapping the case up is going to be fun. The FBI must have files and files that just read "Stardust saved us and then a bunch of really inane shit happened, the end"

"if so, I wouldn't let it get to you; it's really not that difficult to piss him off"

Is it strange that my favorite part of the opening ceremony was the glowing tribute to universal healthcare with the glowing beds and the legion of nannies?
  • So. I decided to just jump right into Inkscape without tutorials (though I'll learn more with them, I suppose).

Ended up making this, though the actual .svg is much messier-looking:

I haven't seen it, but Friday and I where just discussing today how her last dentist in England was technically just a student and didn't exactly do a stellar job on her teeth.

I'm sure it has more "pros" than "cons" when put up against America's current health care, but there's plenty of room for improvement.

    ^Snazy.

^^It does need a bit of cleanup, yeah. Not bad otherwise, though.
  • Hmm. The imperfect 3D HH is nice but I think I prefer the 2D original.

I don't think we'll need a rebrand anytime soon anyway.

I'm sure dental students would do fine in most situations, but I'm sure the student was way out of his/her depth with Friday's teeth. It's probably four or five years later and she's only NOW getting a great deal of the serious work she needs done. Her dad is probably going to outfit her with super, future teeth when she visits Saudi Arabia.

The rendered things very faithfully to the original...which occasionally launches the looks strait into uncanny valley, so I understand some of the anger.

Still, I'd say it's an improvement over what the show looked like before.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Well, they certainly have a hell of a lot more movement. And while I'm partial to the old 80's style of anime which this is a prime specimen of, shows haven't even come close to looking like this since the mid-90s.

One of the comments was demanding the old English voice cast to be called back. Good luck with that -- the three children in the show were played by three children in real life, and they're all in their forties now. Mendoza's VA is still alive and sounds very much the same, however.

Hopefully they add a little more depth to some of the characters. Seeing
Sancho and Pedro motivated by gold gets old after about the 100th time it happens.

Mendoza just needs some ironing out. The way everyone TALKS about him, you'd think he'd sell his own mother if someone harvested her gold fillings and handed them to him in exchange, but he must rationalize that saving people at great personal danger to himself is all just part of him getting gold...even when that saving someone doesn't seem like there's that great a chance he's getting paid for it.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Yeah thinking about about it now, the show really went against the grain. Mendoza acted mostly out of self-interest and they carried this (and everything else!) into the dub intact. I really like Sancho and Pedro, too. As far as comedy relief, they're not too obnoxious.

Sancho and Pedro are alright, just a tad  1 dimensional.

I love how Sancho can somehow remain fat despite the fact the the group usually travels on foot, through the Amazon, on a diet consisting mostly of "shit we manage to catch, and I hope you like reptile".

Mendoza talks a good "gold" game, especially to Sancho and Pedro, but he spends so much time saving everyone's collective asses, it's kinda hard to peg him as "someone who would do ANYTHING for gold."
