I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...the way parts of the split were structured was weird to me.
Namely, letting CBS keep Paramount Television and Showtime (even though they were said to be "slow-growth", they fit in better with Paramount Pictures to me.), and, over time, letting Viacom take TV Land with it (the CBS Television Studios library is the reason it exists in the first place, though it's likely they would have tried broadening their horizons with or without co-ownership with it.).

Gained misanthropy at age 14. You know, existential crisis time. It was actually at its maximum level when I discovered TVT, and somehow the TVT forumites got it to reverse and back down. I went from a "humans are bastards" kind of outlook to more of a "humans are flawed" one.
Many things about humanity disappoint me. We could be here for a while discussing them all. Can't, however, as I'm overdue for sleeptime. Also, I feel hypocritical talking about such things since I know I'm far from perfect myself. (I am, after all, human).

Looking at those, the first thing I notice is that that store has obviously been remodeled at least once.
The decor itself strikes me as very '90s-ish for some reason. Perhaps it's that script typeface that seems to be used throughout.

That clock would have been cool when it was running. For some reason when you see anything like that in a store or something they're usually broken.
The first thing I noticed about the aisle sign was the "And" panel. I almost took a picture of a sign at Kroger the other day because it had an "And" panel too, which struck me as odd. (At least here the items "And" is between seem related, that wasn't the case at Kroger)
I notice the Blockbuster DVD machine. I know a guy who works for the company that operates those (NCR), and he's told me that they're a terrible user experience compared to the more popular Redbox.

Weirdly, it is mere minutes away from the competing King Soopers; this was our de facto grocery store until KS opened in 2003. Mother is under the impression that this Safeway is still a gross shithole, though it's not.

I remember back when the two big competing grocery chains in Columbus were Kroger and Big Bear. You could very often find the stores directly across the street from each other--the Big Bear in Whitehall (where Roses is now) actually had a parking lot that connected directly to the Kroger parking lot around the corner.
When we moved in, Kroger was our de facto grocery store. Then the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Reynoldsburg opened, and we did most of our shopping there but still ran to Kroger rather often (because it's much closer).
Then in 2001 Meijer opened just up the road and that's been our main store of choice ever since (being less than 5 minutes away from the house)

I remember when Wal-Mart opened in 2005. For a time it sort-of competed in Mother's mind with King Soopers due to its lower prices and being only a bit further away. A road closer to the Wal-Mart's shopping center came into being at some point later (IIRC), so the drives to there and KS are about equal in length now, depending on the route.

Also the Meijer originally had a cell phone store among the things at the front (along with the photo studio, the bank, the vision center, etc.). It was the first thing to go. (Its location is where the service desk is now)

The Meijer currently has a Vision Center and a US Bank. Prior to the remodel there was an Olan Mills photo studio as well, but it's gone now.
The Wal-Mart nearest the house has a Subway, a vision center, a haircut place I can't remember the name of, and a bank I also can't remember then name of, and a photo studio.
The Kroger nearest the house has a Fifth Third Bank. Not just the one counter like you're used to seeing, either, they actually have an entire bank branch within the store.

Probably the weirdest store I've seen like that is the Kroger Marketplace in Gahanna, which has not only a bank but also a Starbucks, a "Dressed-for-Success" dry cleaners, and a freakin' Fred Meyer Jewelers all within the store.
