might be this just means my own perception of the character was founded on assumptions that others didn't make
but i feel like this raises the question how far you can divorce a character from their original characterization before they cease to be that character
my initial thought, before checking the source, was 'good art, but what does that have to do with Undertale?'
as long as it doesn't directly contradict canon i am fine with most character interpretations
even if it does contradict canon it's still a "version" of that character, i mean you wouldnt say that Metaton with a sailor's hat from some aquatic AU is a totally different being
and back to the subject, given what we do know about Chara, there is absolutely a fuckton of wiggle room to breathe all sorts of different life into them
1. Undyne specifically mentions that at least one kid was killed directly by Asgore, so there is my dumb fan theory out the window
Well, Asgore speaks like someone with obvious guilt when you're talking to him, so it would make sense that he would've killed at least one of the kids.
i maintain that the confrontation with Asgore has such a grim sense of inevitability hanging over it that i just can't believe he didn't kill at least one of the other humans, probably more
he's not just going to kill Frisk, he's resigned to it. his breathing is ragged and his hands are shaking but he's still utterly committed to it, he's not wavering in the slightest. it's not the first time he's killed.

"Yes."
"Exactly."
Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead
that is really good

Which i thought was neat cuz like, on the one hand, it tells you what Asgore uses it for, but on the other, well, Flowey.
