An odd note about Judas: His epithet, Iskariotes, appears to be a Hellenised attributive form of the Roman Sicarius. One interpretation that I read suggested that Judas' motive for betraying Jesus was to provoke a revolution amongst his followers by making him a martyr, hence finally expelling the Romans from Judaea. It's an interesting theory that, were we speaking in literary terms, would add a very peculiar kind of depth to his character.

I always felt Judas had a little more depth than most seem to regard him with.
Gnostics aside (where he's potentially Jesus's BFF and the whole crucifixion Xanatos gambit was something Judas was in on), I felt it was interesting that he felt remorse for his actions and tried to return the money he was given to sell Jesus out.
Yet, he still often gets regarded as one of the most EVILmen in history. I find this especially interesting since his actions where likely filling out a rather vital role of the Gospels.
There were definitely worse people in the Bible, even in the New Testament; take, for instance, Salomé's deranged romantic obsession with John the Baptist. Seriously, she seduced her stepdad to have a man killed because he wouldn't bone her. That's... it's just wrong on so many levels.
"It is a matter of grave importance that Fairy tales should be respected.... Whosoever alters them to suit his own opinions, whatever they are, is guilty, to our thinking, of an act of presumption, and appropriates to himself what does not belong to him." -- Charles Dickens
Oscar Wilde actually wrote a very moralistic play about Salome.
It's where "dance of the seven veils" as the stock name for a perverted belly dance comes from.

Judas(ジューダスJūdasu?) is a manga by Suu Minazuki(水無月すうMinazuki Sū?). There are a total of five volumes in this series. The first was published in English by Tokyopop on October 10, 2006. The second volume of this series was released by Tokyopop on February 13, 2007. Judas is cursed for his sins to kill six hundred and sixty six (666) people to regain his humanity. However, he is forbidden human contact and has no corporeal body. In order to kill, he uses his slave, Eve, to kill for him. Every time Eve's blood is spilled, Judas comes out and forces Eve to "say his prayers", in other words, kill. However, despite being forced to commit such heinous acts, Eve is also forced to dress like a girl. Judas had mistaken him for girl when they had first met, and he has forced Eve to dress like a girl. Sometime along the course of their strange relationship, they meet a professor, who joins them.
So I guess that's where that image that had been floating around Tumblr, featuring a man shooting some cars and people, captions declaring that "...tonight, JESUS WOULD PAY FOR HIS SINS" comes from.

The premise to the comic feels pretty strange to me... I mean.. I'm OK with dudes cross-dressing, even for dubious reasons, but why is Judas's task to kill MORE people?
Maybe they're evil or something, but the synopsis doesn't specify. And if it's just random people, why the hell has it taken Judas this long to do it? I mean...over 2,000 years? That's about a single person every three years.
Maybe if I read the manga it will explain all this, though I must confess I'm not incredibly confident of that.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
The guy who created Gundam, about 20 years ago, went and made a manga about Jesus that was (of course) his incredible artwork and each page was lovingly watercolor painted. Two volumes, beautiful stuff. I don't think it was ever translated, and my copies are in storage somewhere in California.

Casual satanism is the use of satanic symbols like the inverted pentagram/Sigil of Baphomet, the trappings of the black mass, or demonic imagery to provide the impression of satanism.[28] This is a liminal experience, reserved primarily for shock value, and does not necessarily indicate actual belief, or even interest, in the rites, symbolism, and philosophies of the various forms of Satanist practice cited above.[29]

Something else that interesting to point out about LaVeyan Satanism, is it's weird list of "Infernal names of Satan":

Geez, where to begin. Many of these figures aren't even evil, they're neutral or even considered heroes, like Shiva. It's like LaVey just found every mythological figure he could make sounds cool to 14 year olds with a sentence long description written after it.
Somethine else I found interesting:
As per the Satanic Bible: The use of a human sacrifice in a Satanic ritual, does not imply that the sacrifice is slaughtered “to appease the gods”. Symbolically, the victim is destroyed through the working of a hex or curse, which in turn leads to the physical, mental or emotional destruction of the “sacrifice” in ways and means not attributable to the magician. It is said, that the only time a Satanist would perform a human sacrifice would be if it were to serve a two-fold purpose: that being to release the magicians wrath in the throwing of a curse, and more important, to dispose of a totally obnoxious and deserving individual. This is untrue, satanists sacrifice humans for the power they receive for doing it, and for eating and drinking the flesh and blood of the sacrifice, be it human or animal, live or dead.
With stuff like this, I'm trying to figure out how practicioners stand by the "phylosphy" claim. I mean, OK, they don't do curses, but they recieve "power" for killing things and deviuring them?
I guess "power" can mean many things here, but the wording isn't doing a great job of imparting the idea that it's some sort of state of mind.
@Mr. Truant: "Psalm" is seriously one of the most exceptional pieces of devotional music that I have ever heard.
It's a shame that most religious music in the modern era is so painfully bland. Despite not being much of a religious person, I feel sorry for devout individuals of taste right now. Really, all the good religious musicians right now seem to be either weird outliers or eccentrics...

While not strictly "religious" I've always felt that Mumford & Sons had some pretty heavy Christian themes in pretty much every song of theirs I've heard.

How could be more liberal than Rowan Williams? By being an Episcopalian?
Beleth also spelled Bilet, Bileth and Byleth is a mighty and terrible king of Hell, who has eighty-five legions of demons under his command. He rides a pale horse, and all kind of music is heard before him, according to most authors on demonology and the most known grimoires. According to Pseudomonarchia DaemonumHam, Noah's son, was the first in invoking him after the flood, and wrote a book on Mathematics with his help.
When appearing he looks very fierce to frighten the conjurer or to see if he is courageous. The conjurer must be brave, and holding a hazel wand in his hand must draw a triangle by striking towards the South, East, and upwards, and command Beleth into it by means of some conjurations.
If he does not obey, the conjurer must rehearse all threats the conjurations said. Then, Beleth will obey and do all that he is commanded, but the conjurer must be respectful and pay homage unto Beleth due to his rank, and hold a silver ring in the middle finger of the left hand against his face, as it is the use of hellish kings and princes before Amaymon.
Beleth gives all the love of men and women he is commanded until the conjurer is satisfied.
Astaroth's seal (according to The Lesser Key of Solomon)
He is referred to in The Lesser Key of Solomon as a very powerful demon. In art, in the Dictionnaire Infernal, Astaroth is depicted as a nude man with feathered wings, wearing a crown, holding aserpent in one hand, and riding a beast with dragon-like wings and a serpent-like tail. According to Sebastien Michaelis he is a demon of the First Hierarchy, who seduces by means of laziness, vanity, and rationalized philosophies. His adversary is St. Bartholomew, who can protect against him for he has resisted Astaroth's temptations. To others, he teaches mathematical sciences and handicrafts, can make men invisible and lead them to hidden treasures, and answers every question formulated to him. He was also said to give to mortal beings the power over serpents. His name is possibly taken from the goddess Asherah or Astarte.

I can look through my books on both these guys, but the thing with (Christian/Hebrew) Demonology, is that you can often get the demons to do things that would be considered relatively harmless, or even good.
This, however, does not make the demons good or harmless. The only do this stuff if summon and commanded against their will.
i get so angry sometimes i just punch plankton --Klinotaxis
Let's see...
Bileth (Beleth) tends to "embroil people in foolish and misguided love". He can be dangerous if summoned without proper protection (silver ring), and oversees a number of demons associated with suffering and disease.
Astaroth was originally a female goddess worshiped by rival tribes around the Hebrews. He's got a crazy dragon riding, snake carrying, naked dude, in a crown thing going and also requires a silver ring for protection.
"It is a matter of grave importance that Fairy tales should be respected.... Whosoever alters them to suit his own opinions, whatever they are, is guilty, to our thinking, of an act of presumption, and appropriates to himself what does not belong to him." -- Charles Dickens
Have the Episcopalians and African Anglicans still not had a schism? I mean it's only a matter of time before it's made official that this and this are different religions. The issues of 451 and 1054 were tiny in comparison.
