Well, they were doing well enough to have several stations and become an acquisition target, so I'd say so.
They were certainly in a better position than, say, the Paramount Television Service or Operation Prime Time (neither of which lasted more than a few years).
Paramount had always been weirdly opposed to entering the TV business directly; the one time they did, it was more to ruin DuMont by way of meddling with KTLA. It wasn't really until after the Viacom merger that they even considered running a network again, much less buying stations.
It could have been, but I don't really remember. Either way, I know that Paramount had a huge stick up its ass about TV until at least 1967 (when they were pretty much forced to merge with Desilu by Charlie Bluhdorn).

I remember that I used to wonder what the heck Gulf + Western was. (A G+W-era Paramount logo appears at the start of the 1973 adaptation of Charlotte's Web.)

I used to wonder that, too, after seeing the Paramount logo at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I did, too. Turns out it was another product of the same environment that spawned things like Beatrice and Esmark, and after buying Paramount, they slowly got rid of the industrial holdings until it was just Paramount. It originally started as a company that made car bumpers, of all things.

In one of my alternate universes where the New World-Fox deal never happened I also had it so that Viacom didn't touch Paramount Communications. Which seems rather implausible; they were named for a major movie studio and as such bound to get swept up in some merger at some point! (Maybe with Capital Cities/ABC, Inc.?)
Or with one of the roving private equity firms, assuming they felt like dealing with Hollyweird, anyway. Viacom had more money than God and was looking to invest, so it made sense at the time...
Then again, these were people willing to bet on big-budget Hollywood popcorn movies, so I guess they figured buying the studio itself was more relevant to their interests.
Personally, I'd rather have the library myself, if only because I used to love going to hole-in-the-wall video stores and seeing some of the weird crap they had.

"Yeah. Only made back a little more than half its budget, too!"
Friday and I watched with a friend. It had some awesome moments, but other than that it didn't seem like the movie knew who it's audience was suppose to be.
Our friend reads the comics and picked the movie apart afterwards. Friday and I where OK with this.
A shame, considering a different friend ranted and raved about how this was the best movie to come out in the history of movies.
"I love how we blame Haven for all puns now."
So HAVEN is the pun demon. Not as bad as the smoking demon, but much better than the jacking-off demon.
So I get to work, and UGH TWO FUCKING PEOPLE HAVING SOFTWARE PROBLEMS. Not what I wanted to have to deal with first thing, not when I could be working on hardware or something. >:P
That and the server is down (because I was working on it) and so I can't use SVN.
Also someone's having computer problems and ARGH FUCK THIS I WANT TO GO HOME.
Waiting for therapy. Missed last week cause I was in that spot where I couldn't get out of bed even for therapy, which tends to be sort of self-perpetuating. I think that thought helped snap me out of it actually.

Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
I suspect you replenish your supply of pudding cups regularly. Is this a reasonable assumption?

(Though apparently mother watched it a couple of times and wound up thinking it was alright.)

It's kinda warm in here.
Also for some reason earlier today I was thinking of your pudding cups.
...I think I have five more.

When compared to Rey Gattk and Mana I seem to like his designs much better.
