KARKAT: LET HER GO THIS *INSTANT* YOU HEINOUS COD PACKING SHIT MIME!

KARKAT: WE AREN'T GONNA HUG IT OUT *THIS* TIME BRO, I'LL TELL YOU THAT MUCH RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!

Karkat is no longer my second least favorite character.
  • I don't want Hussie to rule the world though.  I want Hussie to make webcomics.

You say that as though the two are mutually exclusive.
  • Like I said on Tumblr this GIGAPAUSE is gonna feel like waiting for the last Harry Potter all over again.

Want to see what happens but don't want it to end, also characters I love are likely to die.

both activities would take a lot of time.

Just finished the last update and read the announcement.

This is going to be something. Very much of a something.

    THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I'm re-reading Act 1, and something just came to mind: The kids haven't figured out that they aren't real yet. You would think some of the odd things about their world (the captchalogues in particular) would tip them off to things being not quite right, but I don't think the wrongness of things has really hit them even in Act 6.
  • Eh, they're video game characters, but that doesn't mean they're not real within the context of the story. Just means their reality already followed video-game-like laws before they entered Skaia.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I'm probably attacking this from the wrong angle, then.

What I'm really wondering is...what happens when someone actually wins the game? We've never seen anyone actually do it (though Karkat and company came close), and so I'm wondering if going through that door at the end makes them all real, like it did in Problem Sleuth. Or if it leads to our world, or something.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Kanaya is pretty wonderful, yes.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I like how Hussie has been making fun of his own comic since, like, forever:

You don't know why you are wasting time on this website. It is for little children who poop hard in their baby ass diapers.

Also you don't understand what the hell is going on or who all these characters are. It's all a lot of nonsense.

And even before that, there was the "complete waste of time" card (which got revisited in HOMOSUCK).
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Thirteen years later, the boy develops a taste for adventure.

GUESS WHAT SONG I HAD IN MY HEAD WHILST READING THIS SECTION OMG
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
And Hussie would go on to have Roxy use that as a euphemism for bisexuality in Act 6.

    Oh dear.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
And now I'm at the beginning of Act 5. Time to call it a night, I think.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Probably.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Reading through Hivebent now. It's interesting how this provides a softer side to characters that, until now, had pretty much been nothing but antagonistic. Karkat is still loudmouthed, but obviously cares for his friends; Terezi is still weird, but also kind of naive and maybe even a bit lonely...turns out she lives in the middle of nowhere.

It just dawned on me that there's a good chance Hussie isn't really going to bother touching on any more relationship stuff and possibly leave all the relationships sort-of as is. Either ended with a chance of rekindling; not really started yet, but possible; or turbulent.

Which would still make all of the popular ships possible if never fully canonized (except for perhaps the last category).
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Well, considering he's finishing all of Act 6 Act 6 and Act 7 at once, I think there'll be at least a little bit of room for character development among what is sure to be plenty of chaos.

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Personally I think Hussie will definitely leave these things hanging in the air. Just as much to mess with the readers as it is a legitimate direction the story might take.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I just read some of Gamzee's lines from Hivebent out loud. It's amazing how silly he was then, considering the sort of madness he devolved into later on.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Also, Doc Scratch is a douchebag and I want to smack him hard. :P
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Just finished Act 5 Act 1. I...kind of teared up at the end of Aradiabot's speech at the end. :(

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I mentioned this to Naney and I think in my liveblog, but part of what makes Doc Scratch such an effective villain is that he is really alien. Yes, he is a manipulative jerk by most reasonable standards, but when you really try to analyse his motives, you realise that his thought process is fundamentally not human. It is quite unsettling.

I'm reading (or, rather watching via Let's Read Homestuck) John and Karkat's conversation at the beginning of A5A2. Karkat is projecting like crazy.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Also, Vriska is totally venting about Tavros to John, and...Kanaya is madly in love with Rose, even though she doesn't know it yet.

Aw, man, 3x SHOWDOWN COMBO isn't going to be until Act 5 Act 2 Part 26, which isn't out yet. I really wanted to see what music they put under Kanaya Beats Up Everyone.

...except that it turns out that it is out, and they used DANCE OF THORNS.

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Interesting fact: Tyrian purple, the blood colour of Feferi and Meenah's tiny sea-dwelling caste, was originally derived from the flesh and blood of sea snails. Not sure how intentional that was, but if so, very clever.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Also, Doc Scratch is a smug tool, and he needs to die. :P
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I will reiterate: I cannot dislike Doc Scratch. Partly because he is hilarious and partly because he frightens me.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Well, it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for all that white text. :P

The panel in the reprise is even the same damn panel. It's wonderful.

^ And you complain about him and not Gamzee or Sollux? For shame!

    Point taken.

Honestly, I never had much trouble with any of the text tomfoolery, with the exception of Mituna's hysterics.

Well, it's also been a while since I've re-read Homestuck, and I've gotten used to all the trolls' typing quirks.

Speaking of which, I just got to the [o] intermission, so I can actually read what he's saying easily.

We met here in my apartment a little while ago. At that moment, I was busy hosting you from the future, who is you right now, but I did not mention this at the time. I would have introduced your past self to your future self and vice versa, but it is a well known fact that past and future selves tend not to get along.

    Bwahahahahahaha.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I am beginning to realise now just how many plot points in Homestuck began as call-backs to or riffs on ideas from Problem Sleuth.

You mean fucking ALL OF THEM?
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
