I have had an awful morning, and wrote this on HHH, if anyone wants to talk about those albums or recommend me stuff based on them, I'd really, genuinely, deeply appreciate the distraction.
i don't know any of those albums but, any particular tracks that stood out?
uhh, I wish I could say so but a consequence of the way I listen to albums is that tracks tend to blend together (especially with more atmospheric releases) so, no, sorry .n.
i've noticed this, how different people listen to albums differently. i listen to individual tracks a lot, you approach things more like my dad, i think.
when i have some time i'll give some of those a listen, then maybe i'll have something to say.
someone on reddit turned me on to Clear Soul Forces, a 4-man rap group out of Detroit who are so old school I can't imagine any one of them owns a major-label record that came out after 1999.
It's pretty standard lyrics-first stuff but it's an interesting listen. The beats all have this weird transient psychedelic quality to them too despite being very boom-bap-derived.
clusterfuck is an exaggeration, but the DD thread is full of people begging for the leak and like a third of the front page is new tracks from the album which are filled with comments with people circlejerking about how it's the best album of the year and blah blah.
also someone asked some guy why he liked Travis Scott and this was the response
Hittman and Jon Connor are Dr. Dre proteges, Obie Trice was an Eminem protege, Royce da 5'9'' is an Eminem collaborator, Makonnen and Ramriddlz are both people Drake likes.
retrowave/synthwave/whatever are those 80s pastiche people like lazerhawk or preturbator or com truise and that has been going on since like 2011-2010 i think?
todd terje is a nu-disco guy who has been doing his nu-disco thing since like 2004
I just finished listening to Miley Cyrus's new album. Much of it is a collaboration with The Flaming Lips, so that interested me enough to give it a chance.
It's actually pretty decent, if very much overlong.
I'd like to add that I actually think Miley's voice sounds better without the echo that the Lips put on it on their tracks.
A production duo called Bridge Tracks & Mackay posted their solo debut to /r/HHH, it's not getting a lot of attention but it's like, criminally chill, and I recommend it.

i'll have to check them out
this is really weird to listen on headphones
i can tell it's on purpose
tricky if youve not investigated tricky before
If Todd Terje counts as retrowave or whatever, then he's an exception to me.

Sorry for the confusion.
