@Homuhomucalica: My reblog addendum says all I want to say, but long story short: I loved the end of the series, but this may have taken it to the next level.
That's actually an interesting proposal and it does at least admit that the art, production values and acting were top notch, but... I really must disagree, even if I can see where the arguments are coming from. It's not a bad opinion, just one that I really do not share.
I'm slowly reading through that essay now, and at one point, he implies that the creators somehow sold out by appealing to straight adult males with Rebellion.
This is despite the fact that the series originally aired at 1:45 AM on Friday morning in Japan, and the fact that it isn't a terribly kid-friendly series to begin with.
Also I think the biggest PMMM yuri shippers I know are female; I don't know how true this is in the wider fandom in the West or in Japan, but it's worth noting.
