Magic Duel was OK, could have been better.
I don't know if Trixie had a voice actor change or what, but she just wasn't as good this time around. I think she could have stood to be more theatrical, maybe refer to herself in the third person a couple dozen more times.
i liked it, but i never did see what was supposed to be so interesting about Trixie.
i thought Just For Sidekicks was one of the best season 3 episodes, actually. Spike At Your Service, i didn't like quite as much; Spike's exaggerated incompetence in that episode seemed odd to me, although he was perhaps attempting things he hadn't done before.
i feel like i should probably finish the series, for completion's sake.

Wait, why do the pegasi (and alicorn) have wings in their human form, but the unicorn (and alicorn) don't have horns?

Applejack wanted to wear her farm duds to a formal gathering at a royal palace, so I can't imagine she'd be the type to wear a skirt on a daily basis.
Rainbow Dash probably isn't either...seems like she'd favor more athletic clothing.

I kinda like that they made them aracial. It leaves them open to interpret them however you'd like, whereas giving them "canon" races would have just given more fuel to the racist idiots who are all "OMG TWILIGHT SPARKLE CAN'T BE BLACK."

Gosh those designs are bad. Very cookie cutter. Everyone wears a short skirt. Everyone wears knee-high footwear, producing such fashion crimes as Rainbow's tennis boots and Twilight's "argyle legwarmers." And then half of them are angels.

Keep Calm and Flutter On was pretty good.
Discord wanting friends was not something I'd expect, but it IS a kids show after-all, and it's probably good to show that the villains can occasionally be reformed as their are several time where the villains leave in a huff at the end of the episodes and we don't want to teach kids EVERYPONY who is mean, prideful, selfish, etc... needs to be outdone, pranked, our ostracized until they go away.
Discord was written petty well still, the whole episode was really.
I think there have been more misses than hits this season for me, but I hope there's at least a few more the quality of these last couple.
Friday also saw a bit of the episode and commented it was "not terrible" or some such.

Of the two halves of that story, I found "Just for Sidekicks" to be more entertaining than "Games Ponies Play".
In part because the latter had everypony acting like idiots. Nopony thought to ask the mare her name?

All the songs from "Magical Mystery Cure" were awesome.
I liked "Just for Sidekicks" for showing that Big Macintosh and Cheerilee are still hanging out, that Screw Loose is being successfully rehabilitated, and that Carrot Top and Written Script are indeed very close. And most importantly, Zecora wants dragon booty.

Heck, "Babs Seed" is still better than the rest of the episode it went with, so it has that going for it at least.
My ability to appreciate songs from cartoons and musicals took a big hit in my teen years and never quite recovered. But even I like "True, True Friend".

The designs don't bug me too much. Though the faces do seem a tad off.
Also, I agree with much of the tumblr crowd in that it's unnecessary to have all of them wearing skirts.
