really not digging the jumpscares or the weird gameyness to some aspects (is there a good reason I can't just save wherever?)
I honestly can't think of a horror game that does let you save anywhere, since it kinda detracts from, yannow, the horror.
Actually, I lied, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories did, but that was because the points where you could actually die were blatantly obvious and you didn't have time to save during them.

I suppose I just don't play enough horror games to know.
The checkpoints here are so frequent I don't see much a point in not just putting it on the menu.
Roleplaying is fun and all. I personally think it's charming.
But on quests that might be difficult, like a high-rank Rathalos, please wear actual armor and not your flavor set. We only get two deaths between the whole party, and I'm not nearly badass enough to kill an airborne boss before he twoshots you three times in a row.

I walk into this shit wearing a frigging diving suit, but it's also properly upgraded and serves a purpose (huge capture bonuses). I'm not waltzing in with fucking ungemmed Derring leather and no helmet.
You don't take damage in high rank MonHun, you just die. Well, no, that's a lie. You might survive 2/3 hits in HR. If you get hit in G-Rank, you're gonna die.
Although maybe I'm just spoiled by being a Switch Axe main, with amazing mobility, power, and irresistibility to cute monsters.

To be fair, they do work the checkpoint mechanic into the greater plot pretty well.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm playing a tanky gunlance, and in my defense gear I can survive a good few hits without much trouble. I'm starting to get gud enough for unscathed runs (and it sounds like I'll have to for G-rank), but not quite.
But again, this involves gear specifically designed for taking hits with the conscious decision to go for risky knockdowns that the whole team can take advantage of. I don't try to mindlessly zerg an enraged airborne Rathalos wearing half starter gear and half nothing so I can show off my cool pink hair.
Huh. Well, that's where I got stuck so I suppose that's where you got stuck.
I know you need to take an item to him, and you get that item from one of the actors. If you've gotten rid of the egg, you should be on the right track
So, after a bunch of inkbrush use in Ranked games, I have to say I absolutely love the thing. Since I use it with Ninja Squid, so many people have no idea how to deal with me when I suddenly appear behind them or drop from the sky. I've even topped the leaderboards quite a few times with it.
I just finished Majora's Mask 3D and wow, that game is really good. I am not a huge fan of all of the stuff that was added to make the game easier (moving the stone mask's location really messed with my memory, haha), but the improvements to the save system and song of double time more than make up for that.
Honestly, Majora's Mask probably has my favorite plot of any video game period. Playing it again reminded me of that. It does not have a ton of cutscenes or whatever, but I think the little bits and pieces you get going around helping and healing people really establish the setting well and make you feel like you are actually making a difference in the world. In some ways I guess I prefer the sidequests in that game to the more epic plot lines that often appear in other games. I am not really sure why.
I liked the time-travel concept and dark atmosphere of MM, but parts of it annoyed me greatly. If the remake is easier then perhaps I should try it sometime.
The way the mechanics are set up is that some of them have a very high skill ceiling but there's little punishment for failing to do something incredible; it's sort of like TF2 in that way. (TF2 offers lower rewards for doing something incredible, but it also does not punish you for failure.) The gameplay is very competitive, but the atmosphere is very casual. There's something very refreshing about the game overall.
Also, when you score a goal the sound effect definitely uses a sample of someone jumping into a pool. So that's nice.

Camera Girl is just that A-tier.

Also, it has an amusing gun customization (gunstomization) system.
