A game doesn't have to be pure interactivity and emergent gameplay isn't the only valid type. Certain types of stories are more conducive towards in-game storytelling than others.
"The worst kind of cutscene is the long unskippable kind placed before a really hard boss."
Guilty Fire Kishgal duel. Sometimes Falcom just hates you.
Also, remember how I said that despite the problems, Monster Hunter does a lot of things right that most games don't try? One of them is blowing the chest off a giant stone dragon by overloading a lance-mounted bazooka. God I love that weapon.
^i forgot to say anything about that in here but yeah, gosh darn. hirez has a small team that's basically treating it as a passion project. i hope they can get something for their efforts because tribes is friggin' special.
Speaking of Link's Awakening, I think the two Oracle games were kinda unpolished. Just a lot of weird, inconsistent stuff that isn't usually in the titles actually made by Nintendo. I think one of the big examples is that whereas in LA all the screens were fixed, in OoA and OoS the overworld screens were fixed but the dungeon screens weren't, which in addition to being kinda backwards on its own made a lot of the dungeons feel more confusing.

Mechwarrior Living Legends might be getting some love too. Probably not Mechlab but it looks like a new map.
i've just discovered there's a cutscene in assassin's creed 2 that has a qte where you can press the b button to give leonardo da vinci a hug. quite frankly, that owns.
Man, every time I go on a quest in Monster Hunter and I see a large winged wyvern, it's like...god dammit, not this shit again.
Every single one of them is annoying as fuck.
Without exception.
Well okay, the 4ft tall Kut-Ku from that one arena quest was kinda adorable. I would've captured him if I didn't know that's just a way for your merciless nature-raping superiors to more efficiently vivisect it.
So, I beat the single player campaign in Splatoon last night (mostly so I could unlock the scroll weapons), and I've gotta say, that was one of the best final bosses I've ever fought.

When more than half the game is cutscene, then you have a problem.
And this.
Play, not watch.
This is an irrational but very strong conviction I have.
i don't agree but i can understand the logic, it's not irrational.

He's a Mega Man character, they're all like that.
It's a sort of Yume Nikki-esque surreal horror-esque game. Worth a look.
