So is it just me, or are jumps much more annoying in Dark Souls II? I swear, about half of my deaths so far have just been missing a jump for one item in the Forest of Fallen Giants.

You get used to it.
I hope so. So far, getting so annoyed that I ragequit and start a new character and counting the number of souls I've lost out of anger are traditions (about 3000) that have carried over from my Dark Souls playthrough.

It's different. The system is better but you're also required to use jumps less often so it kind of balances out.

Don't do that, it'll raise your Soul Memory (effectively a profile-wide Soul Level) without raising your effective SL, putting you behind in PVP.
I don't know, nobody actually seems to know how it works and if you try to say it's any particular way people will tell you you're wrong, and if you say you heard it from some specific person they'll say they're wrong.

Everybody, buy Risk of Rain the next time it's available for your price range.
It's a roguelike (yass) and a platformer (yass) with beautiful aesthetics (yass) and it's multiplayer and I need friends to enjoy the experience with me.
I was tempted by Valkyria Chronicles at -25% but I didn't bite.
That said, Carpe Fulgur games are suddenly now -66% after having missed like the last two sales events. And I need to stock up on Recettear gifts. Questions answered.
In case y'all hadn't heard: one of the two (or three) guys running Carpe Fulgur, the localization group for Recettear, put up a blog post explaining his silence over the past several months, beyond just "working on Trails in the Sky SC". It's pretty heavy stuff: (edit: WARNING: emotional and serious) http://www.carpefulgur.com/drakblog/?p=53
Oh, also, all Carpe Fulgur games are discounted -66% for a month. Usually I only buy them when they're -75%, but (1) I really want extra Recettear gift copies, and (2) I think CF, EGS, and Lizsoft deserve some more success.
So, to restore Humanity in Dark Souls II, do you have to use a Human Effigy as opposed to burning it? I tried burning it and it just told me that it blocked invasions. I get the feeling I just wasted it.
Yeah, you have to use it. Burning it keeps invaders away.
You may feel early on that you're going to run out of Effigies very quickly, but it's actually pretty difficult to run out of them even though there are technically only a set amount on each playthrough.
That said you were fantastically unlikely to be invaded during your first few hours of Dark Souls 2 anyway.
Yeah, seems that way. Plus, I've spent 80% of that time undead, so I wasn't getting invaded anyway.
that actually doesn't matter anymore.
I think being undead might put you lower in the priority list, but you can still be invaded while undead.
Oh! Well, that's good to know. Even invaded by NPC phantoms?
I'm pretty sure.
Though there are some that only spawn under certain circumstances.
(when you get there, Rhoy the Explorer in the Grave of Saints, Bowman Guthry in the Doors of Pharros, and The Bell Keeper in The Belfries all only invade if you're offline.)

this, also substitute any of the following for "risk of rain": "rogue legacy", "thief", "chantelise", "to the moon", "puzzle agent 2", "metro 2033", "jamestown", "greed corp", "dust", "dustforce", "element4l", "limbo", "arma: cold war assault", etc.
That's why I got all of them. Because they're good. And those are games I intend to play. There's a huge list that I don't even intend to play, and I don't even feel like trying to remember them. (Also many of them just sit in my bundles list, never having been redeemed on Desura or Steam.)
it is, which is why i've tried to find ways to be better at actually playing and finishing games.
part of the problem is that, at least around 2010-2012, i still basically operated on the same principle i'd operated on for years -- that my access to games was the scarce resource, rather than my time.
i've since recognized that it's the other way around now -- especially since i have my own (albeit meager) income and such now.
made a list of games i want. not getting them unless they drop down to like -66% or better in most cases. also to keep that list from growing much, i've resolved to stop trying to find more games to get -- e.g. looking at bundles regularly.
heck, i even passed up a bundle earlier with nights into dreams, and another bundle earlier with beat hazard.
I can heartily recommend ROR (if you can get it to work), Rogue Legacy, To The Moon, Element4l, Limbo, and Metro 2033, and that's just me.
I can personally recommend Limbo, To the Moon, and Dust (assuming you mean the Elysian Tail)
Dust I recommend somewhat apprehensively, as the art style is unusual in its quality. The animation is usually of the highest quality that I've ever seen, but the art style is more suited for the darker parts of Deviantart or wherever else furries gather. But if you can get past that, it's a fun game that does a good deal with its plot.
also, heap risk of rain session as soon as I get decent streaming internet again.
So, question for people who play Dark Souls II online on PC. Does anyone else get "Unable to play in online mode due to detected frame rate issue"? I've been getting those a lot and it's bugging me. Also, when the game decides there is a frame rate issue and kicks me to offline mode, I feel like the game runs smoother. Normally it runs fine enough to manage, but it does feel a little sluggish, especially when you first load your save. And if 3 or 4 enemies end up attacking me at once, the game starts to lag pretty bad.
Also, beat the first boss and The Pursuer. The Pursuer only took me 2 tries, so I think I'm starting to get the hang of Dark Souls II's combat. Of course, I also got hit by the attack that made me cursed, so that's fun. Oh well.

I actually had that issue with Dark Souls 1
Namely, the game ran fine for the longest time, but then there was some update, and then it uniformly ran terribly, and I haven't been able to play it since.
Update on my previous post: So I've had a chance to explore some more areas in DS II (The Bastille, Heide's Tower of Flame, and No Man's Wharf) and the all seem to run fine, so it just seem to be Majula, Thing's Betwixt and the Forest of Fallen Giants that run like crap and I hve no idea why only these three areas are affected.

This is because I want TWO gift copies of Recettear, and I can't buy more than one at once.
Anyway, now I need to figure out how to spend $30 - ($6.79 + $16.97) = $6.24.

I'm not fully sure if I'm sold on roguelikes yet, but I will try it if it means I get to play with YV because YV's the man.
Also, Vlambeer are officially my favorite developer who I've never played any games from. Guys are legendary.
