Dude, remember to poke around some of the areas after you're done killing in Hotline. There are occasionally bonus masks. Most of which are useless, but hey, collectibles! There are also other collectibles, but I'm not sure if they're spoilers or not. Let's just say that they're related to Rasmus and purple.
So, the company behind Starbound is also publishing Treasure Adventure World, which is apparently getting a not-pixellated version made of it.
Frankly I prefer the pixel version more, but I like the gameplay upgrades and it's good that the game's getting more attention. I always thought it was particularly good for a freeware Legend of Zelda-style thing.
This is, of course, an implicit recommendation that you all check out the original version.
But I really don't want to pay for the Stanley Parable
And yet I'd rather not pirate it, even though my policy on that has become more wonky as of late.
What do?
imo, it's not interesting enough to warrant a purchase.
or even a free download, but your money is yours, so, w/e.
The thing about that game is that it costs too much money for what it's worth to me.
Like, there's this game called the Cave. It's a decent puzzle-adventure game by the guys who made Psychonauts, but it's 14 dollars and it's worth 8 at best (I ended up buying it on sale for 9 dollars)
It's the same thing with the Stanley Parable. It's worth about 5 dollars to me and not a cent more, and the idea of spending 15 dollars on it is ludicrous.
I just...really want to have a first-hand opinion on this thing that everybody keeps arguing about.
Oh, the Cave isn't 8 dollars because it's narrative-driven. It's 8 dollars because the gameplay doesn't support the narrative as well as it could and should have.
It really is a shame. A bit more time and a bit more tweaking and it would have been a bombshell of a game.
Now that I think about it, one of my best purchases was Thirty Flights of Loving, which cost $5 and was basically a playable indie movie.
starbound verdict: fun, but i wish monsters would stop wandering over and trying to go all aggro on me when im in my goddamn house and there is no way they can get to me
It made a comeback in the latter parts, but that opening was just so lackluster and smelling of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
And I felt that the demo didn't allow me to break enough stuff. I spent a couple minutes lounging in the waiting room so the voice would yell at me for not following instructions.
There was this one bit where we end up in a room where you press a button that says 8, and sticking around in there was nice scolding from the narrator, but it's nothing special. Glados and Wheatly are a bit better with that, to be honest.
No, no, the demo has nothing to do with the actual Stanley Parable game.
The demo is a minigame (for a given value of game) where you do your best to actually get to the demo while a British man becomes increasingly exasperated at things. The bit where you press the 8 button repeatedly is one of a number of fakeouts.
God dammit I hate Orbinauts in Sonic Lost World. You can't kill them unless it's a chain homing attack or if you get hit and hit them with mercy invincibility active.
Sonic Lost World in general is full of really shitty game design, come to think of it.
Yeah I was watching an LP of the boss fights and thinking it looked incredibly dull.
The thing I hate the most about Lost World is how it switches between 2.5D stages and 2D ones. Granted, aspects from the 2.5D levels are incorporated in the 2D ones.
What's sad about Lost World is that it has some genuinely good ideas but fucks them up with terrible gameplay design.
The genius is in how the gameplay blends with the storyline and the overall themes. The gameplay's a puzzle/survival horror where you need to solve puzzles and climb higher in order to win. There's a time limit, and if you go over it, you die. The narration repeatedly says that "panicking won't solve anything" and "you need techniques to survive". However, it also stresses that you can't just come up with the techniques all by yourself. You need help from the others.
That's where the real beauty of the story shines. Most of the other characters who are stuck in the same scenario are not interested in being helped or helping others. They constantly spout lines like "I'm going to shove everyone else over to get my way" or "I don't trust anyone". The player is given the option to act just like them. This reveals Catherine's core message. Ultimately, humans are foolish and selfish creatures, too self-absorbed to work together even if it's the only way to survive. Catherine's more than just a puzzle game. It's a commentary on the human condition.
tl;dr I like Catherine because it reminds me of Majora's Mask
hell, I think humanity's portrayal in Catherine is WORSE than in MM
In Majora's Mask, no-one except you can really do anything about the moon. In Catherine, the people are able to do something about their situation but don't out of their petty flaws

So there's your firsthand opinion.
It's too clever for its own good.
Although I really take umbrage with the idea that a game being narrative-driven makes it worth less than one that's more gamey.

Starbound's weapon balance is a little... questionable at the moment.
Seriously though, the last Rayman game was one of the most fun things I've played in years. Totally looking forward to this.
