Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
So what I think Kex is trying to say is that because the game presents the theme that ultimately no choices matter, it makes sense to be rail-roady. And to me that makes sense. I wouldn't call it "satire" but it's certainly a valid artistic choice.
Also I found the combat fun on easy. Just run around with two different pistols, throw crows at the Columbians like it's going out of style, and skyline like you're Errol Flynn of the High Skies. Grand.
So, I have no achieved every BoI achievement, but I have played the game enough to want more variety.
Since Ludmila recommended that game a long time ago, I shall seek your guidance in games and ask agains.
Nuclear Throne is $13 for beta access. The thing is both buggy and not finished, but it's already worth the price IMO. It's a bit more similar to the free Shoot First! than The Binding of Isaac, but much more polished (and just as buggy) than the former.
in a somewhat different vein, Spelunky is a platformer with some roguelike elements that's also a lot of fun and available on Steam (for, I believe, $15). Unlike NT it's finished, and if you add me on Steam we can compare high scores on the Daily Challenges. There's a free version of Spelunky too but it's a somewhat different beast, so if it interests you and you have the money I'd just recommend the Steam version.
Doesn't it do the exact thing you criticized Bioshock for not doing, that being criticizing railroading and in doing so allowing choice?
I don't actually dislike The Stanley Parable I just think it's kind of pretentious and a little too concerned with giving whoever's playing it the middle finger to be as good as it could be.
well, a problem with a lot of roguelikes and roguelites is that they are perpetually in development.
if you're looking for a much straighter example of the genre, I'd give DungeonCrawl StoneSoup a try.
I think Our Darker Purpose (essentially a Binding of Isaac clone, to be thoroughly uncharitable to what looks like an at least good game in its own right) comes out soon as well.
it's good unless they decide to talk about anything released after 1999, in which case it instantly morphs into the worst, most old gamer angry, website on the internet.

What? I haven't seen any sign of nostalgia goggles on it.
I know. I couldn't get the url from the big version.
Short version is that a guy decides to be a peaceful bike guy on a GTA: San Andreas server, and he gets two people to join him and they go all around the town and it's the most social thing he's done in ages.

I dunno what you're talking about? HG101 is awesome. :D
Spent half an hour poking around the Steam Trading site in an effort to get rid of a 25% coupon for Shadow Warrior (btw, I have a 25% coupon for Shadow Warrior. Please help me get rid of it. It's presence in my inventory brings me such bemusement) . Very strange place. You can feel a sense of imbalance in that place, between what is wanted and what is needed. And you have to wonder how people get all those games to trade. People be offering dozens of games. Suffice to say that I haven't managed to get rid of that coupon. Or any of the other stuff cluttering up my inventory (I have a copy of Terraria, Limbo and Chaos on Deponia, in case any of y'all be interested).
There's also a link to Steam Gifts (which allows you to raffle away your games; I threw in my spare copy of Amnesia to give it a shot) and Steam Sales (which is obvious).

Is that classic Shadow Warrior (which is really horrible and I wish anyone involved was sent to the near-endless purgatory of Avici where they will spend innumerable aeons having their sins painfully purged by very tired demons), or new Shadow Warrior (which I think is pretty okay and not nearly as disgusting)?
I was very confused about that kickstarter for a while, because there's another game called Night In The Woods that is a "standing still in the woods at night simulator" (developer's words), and I was wondering why it was generating such hype.

Also, Spelunky, bitch I own that game. People sacrifice to me for tips and goods in that game.
