Also, it's hooked up to the big TV in the living room, and I feel weird hogging that TV for games when I have a TV in my room. (The living room TV typically gets used for sports)
Also, halfway through the fight, they'll offer to spare you, since honestly, they don't like fighting and think that there still might be a glimmer of a good person inside you. (It's heavily implied that you're the only thing that's posed such a threat to the world that they've felt obliged to fight it.)
nah for real tho i just dont usually play games this fast paced and twitchy, and dex is my dump stat, so im bad at it, but if you like twin stick shooters or really fast paced twitchy arcadey stuff in general it seems solid (my opinion after playing for like 45 minutes tops)
ok but enough of that lets talk about what i really came here to talk about: towerclimb is on steam now! it really really really really [...] really owns ok??? 'reverse spelunky' is a good way of describing it in more ways than just the obvious. really pretty, really fun, really hard game.
yo get towerclimb you guys... i've been playing it on and off for years now and im really glad its finally on steam... its amazing
Well, that's a 100% run of Prime Veteran Mode in about 6:30. Half an hour of that was looking for the last lore scan because I'm a moron and missed the one in the boost ball room -_-
Next is a speedrun of Normal. And I really, really strongly suspect they did the thing where they renamed all the difficulty modes one step higher, then invented a new easy mode and called it normal.
slowbeef clutches Alpha Blogg, the third-hardest boss in the game, on the first try
after getting Boost Guardian, the hardest one, in pretty respectable time
then takes almost 20 minutes to kill Grapple Guardian because he keeps letting go of his lock while strafing and wastes all his ammo (on uncharged shots, natch) when the boss is very obviously shielded and reflecting everything
something i've been wondering . . . to what extent do JRPGs have "non-linear" storytelling?
i ask because apparently the focus on story is the visual novel influence (weird fact that i learned from an Extra Credits video: all the major traditional JRPG developers got their start making eroge), but in my super-limited experience, JRPGs don't tend to have the kinds of branching path narratives you get in VNs, do they?
or do they, and i just haven't played those kinds of JRPGs?
...does Legend of Zelda count as a JRPG? Many of the story elements are the same and while the gameplay is different from traditional JRPGs...so is Secret of Mana's.
In my experience gameplay is more there to provide emotional context in JRPGs.
On a related note I think JRPGs are rather unfairly maligned and a few things in modern games (eg lame "moral choic" moments) exist as a reaction to that.
i'm not maligning them (except in the sense that i have never personally enjoyed them that much, with one or two exceptions), i'm just asking whether any JRPGs have experimented with less linear approaches to storytelling
i am not saying JRPGs' approach to storytelling is automatically bad or anything like that
TVT suggests the SMT series is maybe the kind of thing i'm picturing
idk, it's just kind of surprising to me that you don't see more JRPGs along those lines, so much so that i've been wondering if i just don't know about them
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
SMT is the only JRPG series that I know of that has moral choices, and it's not even "good" vs. "bad." It's "devil" vs. "demiurge" or "chaos" vs. "order" or "pure freedom" vs. "pure restriction."
In the course of my career as a vidcon specialist (my own coinage, spend it wisely), I have never seen such blatant and frankly, sickening ignorance as that exhibited by the "people" (if, in fact, they are homo sapiens at all, as their intelligence implies elsewise) that claim that Zelda is not an RPG. There is nothing that Shigeru "Shiggy" Miyamoto could possibly do to make the vidcon any more of an RPG as it meets every single criterion for being one, particularly that it takes place in an imaginary realm with a fantastical beastiary, the damsel/villain ratio is at or above standards, and that the core emphasis of the gameplay is on bedazzling all foes with impeccable swords and sorcery. Furthermore, this line of thought can be extended to all vidcons in which the player controls a character (hence, roleplaying), though I cringe slightly at the thought of such mundane vidcons as Madden being RPGs, as they do not even include exotic weaponry such as the tonfa.

It has come to my attention that in certain circles, simian-minded individuals are refering to vidcons as 'vid cons', ignorantly placing a space between 'vid' and 'con'. Perhaps their brains have dulled by years of Madden and Quake, rather than the mentally invigorating games such as Arc the Lad and Growlanser, becuase even a child could tell that placing a space between the 'vid' and 'con' in vidcon is perhaps more profoundly philistine than a certain American administration that need not be named. Placing a space in vidcon completely belittles the meaning of the word and displays the user's blatantly minuscule intellect and is understanding of the basic precepts of grammar. Vidcon is a perfect marriage of the words console and video game, creating a short and effective portmanteau that quickly and accurately labels mentions objects and anybody who does not immediately recognize 'vid con' as absolutely outrageous clearly lacks the mental faculties to correctly operate a vidcon other than perhaps FIFA Sports. I make this point becuase I have recently been belligerently barrage by imbecilic 'vid con' references that unnerve me to no end and have taken it upon myself to correct the damage that your poor Western education ( though this is a subject to be discussed on a later date) has wrought upon you. You should personally thank me that i did not see it fit to correct your preponderous mistake in Japanese, becuase I am thoroughly positive your neanderthal mind would be incapable of deciphering the Hiragana from the Katakana.
One thing that caused me to stop playing this game and register to post to this was the EXTREMELY ANNOYING propaganda that gets spit out at me for about 4- 6 text screens everytime I want to save. Although I agree with much of what you say there is really no need to put this in a game. It makes it seem very unprofessional and just plain annoying and in my case ruined the whole appeal of the game. Now, let me explain why I call it propaganda yet I say I agree with most of it. First off, you state your points in a very racist and one sided way, in fact it's stated in such a way where it makes YOU sound very unintelligent and infact ignorant. For instance, you mention how games like Madden and Quake are ruining gaming and how the people who play these games are stupid( This is what I, and many people I've spoke to about have taken from it.) First off, I don't particularly disagree with you, I don't like either of these games or there generes. However, as a professional game developer myself, the first thing I had to come to terms with (and which you very much need to) is the fact that not everone likes the same games as you. Infact, this can be broadened to the fact that people have different OPINIONS, which can not be validated as right or wrong since they are OPINIONS. Some people who are big sports fan will like playing sports game. Who are you to judge there opinions? Who are you to judge there intelligence? I won't even get into your racist statements since I myself do not want to gt into it since it would add many many paragraphs to this post. Let me say this, it completely convinced me that you are FAR FAR more ignorant than those you insult. But from a professional point of view this is absurd, this propaganda has no place in a game, especially in one where all the other aspect are excellent. So in summary, keep you opinions/politics out of your games or you will lose fan. You just lost my support, respect and that of many other people I know by having such ignorant propaganda in your game. Now I will leave you with a few words from the father of philosophy, Socrates. "All I know is that I do not know anything." Please think this over and raise youself about your ignorance. Thank you and have a good day.
Metroid Prime 1, speedrun in just a hair over 3:30 (would've been under if I didn't get impatient and fall off the spider track to the plasma beam). 81% items -- I just got the ones immediately in my way. Also I took down all three final bosses without losing a single energy tank. While my work computer was downloading updates before shutdown.
So...minimalist Hypermode. It kind of terrifies me, but my pride will not allow this challenge to stand.
EDIT: Started the run, and epicfailed on Flaahghra of all things because he glitched out, insta-turned his headbutt attack, and landed on me just right to completely immobilize me from 99 to 0 health while simultaneously leaving his claws in my face to block counterattacks that would've stunned him out of it. Fucker.
Total deaths: 1
Also, missile-canceling still works on the Wii version, and it's still incredibly powerful even with only 5 missiles.
I'm kind of mixed on Hotline Miami 2's Hard mode. It strikes me as mostly fair, except for one big change.
The levels in HM2 being flipped in Hard mode seems like one of the more... artificial increases in difficulty, to be honest, and I got relatively high scores with Nigel and Oscar in the first game (flipped controls and a garish red filter, respectively). This would be "just another thing to get used to" if the levels themselves weren't also heavily modified. The fact that you have a normal perspective in HM2 is one of the reasons why I don't consider HM2 to be that unfair - if at all - of a game. You can scan ahead, and once you've memorized enemy placements, it somewhat comes down to your own failings for getting hit. I'd call its removal, like the ability for single shots to kill you in one hit, welcomed in fact. Finally, the background change is entirely negligible too
New enemies are quite fair, and are an appreciable upgrade from Normal mode to keep it from being too repetitive. Likewise for having less doors and more windows; by that point you're already familiarized with it, and stripping you of safe areas only makes sense for a game as guns-a-blazing as this one. And heck, I consider Dead Ahead to be a fair, if long scene. Likewise for more intelligent AI, tougher placement, and tougher enemies being encountered earlier. Unintelligent AI made some of the levels too easy, while I noticed certain levels could be spruced up quite nicely with, say, a Thug or three. I also rarely had any use for locking-on in either game and managed to get fine just fine. It's not even strictly necessary, just kinda helpful if you want precision while you work on getting precise enough.
Then there is the fact that you lose some ammo every time you drop a weapon, which strikes me as... also unnecessary, and a little nonsensical. HM2 may continuing being the same fast-paced gorefest like the first, and keep it varied, but picking up weapons in a mess is still an inherent design issue just by the nature of the game, and it's far from free of glitches. So taking away ammo when issues like those still aren't too addressed seems a bit like putting the cart before the horse. Never mind the fact that you already start off with less ammunition, some weapons like the Double Barrel Shotgun, or Magnum, might as well be next-to-useless with the hit they take. I mean the ammo cut? That's sensible. But adding smaller drops alongside that and more enemies? I'm unsure. It doesn't strike me as unreasonable so much as an unnecessarily unfair layer of difficulty added in (although I suppose you could make an okay comparison to how FTL's Hard mode also gives you less resources). Although, like Normal, I suspect that you'd still end up with more ammo than enemies even if you play awfully, which might not be so bad. Just kind of silly.
It's not much simpler than removing or weakening every shield you had in Normal mode anyway, which by the time you're finished with the main game you shouldn't need to rely on. But man, the level flipping and ammunition drops. Why.

If you accept, this happens. (Undertale spoilers, naturally.)

it's mainly an action adventure game but genres aren't absolute
anyway, i wouldn't consider Zelda an example of branching-path storytelling
