Argh, sorry about us getting separated, Lazuli. I'm guessing we picked separate quests?
Helios looks pretty interesting.
Yes we did. You were talking to that officer guy while I went blowing up members of yet another superpowered gang. Would've been avoidable if we were allowed to use the chat function, but I digress.
I also made another character who is my take on a traditional superhero. His name is Electronex, I'm not sure I'll be using him much, though.
Just installed it. The fact that I'm a free player now but wasn't before is a bit confusing, but it probably looks more so than it is. Apparently I have four slots which I can distribute across servers, and all my old characters are still there but sort of locked away until I do that. Also something about reward tiers and tokens and such.
@Yarrun: you should probably contact customer support or something then. Free players are indeed supposed to receive two slots, so there was probably an error or something.
Already put the slot on the Virtue Server. Just haven't made the character yet.
The only character of mine that I can reasonably recreate would be Martin (essentially, a heroic ditz of a brute with low-level geomancy and a sledgehammer), but considering that my current character is a Stalker, I'd prefer that I make a long-range character.
I think I'll roll an Electric/Fire scrapper there, then. Or if you're a villain, I'll roll up a Brute (how come they get Energy Melee but heroes can't? :o ).
The thing that puts me off about character creation is the muscle definition. No matter how you fiddle with the sliders, you're going to get someone more sculpted than...I dunno. Young Arnold Schwarzenegger, I guess. Most of my characters aren't particularly devoted to physical fitness. The only one who would be that defined is female, and the female models are too undefined for her (that, and I'm a bit uncomfortable with making a female character). Which is why I'm actually considering Koth as an option
Also, Brute is available from the beginning. I don't think there are any one-sided basic powersets; you don't even get to choose your alignment until after character creation.
Also, why can't you have a ranged weapon and a melee weapon?
I know it makes balancing issues more difficult, but it seems kind of silly. Just because Green Arrow is a long-range superhero doesn't mean he can't defeat the average mook with his bare hands.

Check the Dominator Archetype. It does slightly skew toward ranged, but there are melee attacks there too.
Captain Gravitus is a Dominator with Gravity Manipulation/Earth Manipulation powers. They work pretty well.
Alright. On Virtue, I'm Messenger DAS-612, a taserbot. I figured that the only way that I would be satisfied with the inhuman aspects of the creator was the make something inhuman (though the tightness of the pants is a bit annoying). He's basically a Technological Blaster with an Electrical Powerset.
Just about done with the first quest. Going to see what's up in Hyperion Way.
Also, protip: getting to Level 2 in the tutorial is much easier than getting to Level 2 outside of the tutorial.
^ I saw Helios right before I finished the final leg of the Hellion quest. You were going too fast for me to get a good look at him, but he seemed a bit dark for a sun god.
Yarrun: that sounds pretty cool. And I had to make my first character a mutant demon thing to be okay with that as well. (that reminds me, do they still do the "male, female, gigantic" thing for gender? I always thought that was funny.)
Also, I seem to have the ability to make supergroups since I used to be a subscriber, so I'll make an Anorak Avengers one when I'm on and invite everyone.

The "skull armor" look was the closest thing they had to the whole lava golem motif.
Also my current headcanon is that Helios has varying levels of patronage with assorted Greek gods. His fire powers come from the Sun, his dark powers from Hades, and his super speed from Hermes.
I probably just murdered Greek myth, but that's nothing new to comics.

Manticore is kind of a jerk to his henchmen. He basically sicced a few non-powered soldiers against a team of superheroes when he could have just checked our security levels. A few dozen guys got burnt, shot, electrocuted and hit in the face with rocks so a 'heroic' billionaire can satisfy himself. Now I feel dirty just for finishing that quest

Manticore seems to be kind of a douche, honestly.
I was disappointed I wasn't given any dialog options to call him out on it.
Also I finally figured out how to use Enhancements. Yai.
Is he secretly gay? Because then he'd be the skeleton in the closet.
Just did "Death from Below" and leveled three times. It was pretty cool seeing that they crammed every low-level sewer villain into one mission. Although I got lost fighting, well, the Lost.
Well, now I know what to look for when I'm on Virtue.
Should probably post a picture of my own character. A matter of fact, we should make a general post establishing the Virtue server as the pseudo-official Trash Heap server, with all our names and descriptions and links to our pictures
Trying to log in was a no go apparently, but here's my character Pyrphorosa. Except she's usually more on fire than this, and instead of her hands being on her hips they're usually electrocuting someone.
Helios is pretty identifiable. I'd take a picture but I lack the means to do so (the PrintScreen key on the computer I have CoH running on does not work too well).

but I thought you get two character slots. Or maybe it's two characters, one server?

Got around to playing today after several days offline. Was fun, leveled up with Helios and finished out my first main quest line.
Also made a character based on Gravity Man and deleted Electronex.

???
Heroes get energy melee. At least I think they do.
(also you can be a heroic Brute, I'm pretty sure)

^ If there was a Wind secondary, I would so make a god tier John. (I might anyway--War Mace/Regeneration and then just give him Flight and Whirlwind.)

Yeah, the body sculpting is incredibly limited.
I have seen people manage to pull off other looks, but I'm not sure how.

Huge bugs me. The head's too tiny for the body. It's Liefeldian and that makes me feel mad.

Find either Twinshot (whose quest I just recently finished myself) or the Architecture Studio guy. Whose exact name escapes me.
There's also an elderly superhero named Wavelength you can talk to, but her quest seems to be premium-exclusive.

he's a professor AND a skeleton
i get so angry sometimes i just punch plankton --Klinotaxis
Know what vibe I get from Professor Skeleton?
Anyone remember The Creeper? That one character whose origin story was basically "man goes crazy, gets random costume, punches people"?
That's the vibe I get from Professor Skeleton. And I am okay with that.
by the way did i mention he's a skeleton professor
I keep hearing about The Sewer but have yet to even see said sewer.
Also I think Professor Skeleton should be our version of Ambush Bug.
how did you guess
tell me this
does ghost rider read floaty book things

Okay, for the record, his name is Professor Skeleton, and he's a skeleton professor also a level 7 magic controller.
Or dominator. I forget sometimes.

No, I mean it takes screencaps, but they all come out completely black for some reason.
This only seems to happen with video games. Cuz my stepdad's had the same problem on Skyrim.
