I guess, on some level, I'm just really tired of Macklemore.
Just, really, really tired of Macklemore.
Alright. 'Same Love' sucks. Can we move on? Can we move on with our lives?
Can we go to a place where we can discuss something other than Macklemore's song that was old news before he even hit it big with Thrift Shop? Or Miley Cyrus's gradual deterioration and feeble attempts at twerking? Can't we just skip ahead a few weeks when something, anything is trending besides this?
It just bothers me that Tumblr will sing the praises of a famous person who tweets support for gay marriage but when someone actually writes a song about it, taking care to represent nonwhites and actually include an LGBT guest singer, that person is evil and making it all about himself and blah blah blah it's so asinine and I swear Tumblr just hates things for no reason and justify it later.
The song was okay. It was overly long, and not hugely intelligently written, but I feel like, just like Thrift Shop (although it was much moreso in Thrift Shop's case) the message alone helped the song considerably.
It's also nice hearing it come on popular radio stations in my area because, who knows, maybe it might help normalize that kind of thing for the people around here.
As I've gone over before on my Tumblr, the efforts of others to understand the disenfranchised and stepped on should be encouraged. Criticized, yes, but appreciated for their ability to reach out to those who generally ignore the disenfranchised and stepped on.
Now, in some places, you don't end sentences with prepositions. This is not one f thos eplaces.
Well, he did use a slur in Same Love, which isn't getting him any points from me. Coming from a cis straight dude that makes me raise an eyebrow, and never mind that yes, the lyrics aren't exactly stellar. That all said I'm glad that some extremely popular — no matter what a certain part of Tumblr may like or think — dude is also getting those songs played fairly often. He's certainly not exempt from criticism but his efforts should be looked at for what they are nonetheless.
Even if they are, I'm not comparing them to others when I hear the song on the radio. The thing is if he was gay then I'd consider it differently, because he'd understand what it's like to be called that for something true (homosexuality) about him, as opposed to the rather cringeworthy line he gave in Same Love about drawing. Again touching on the lyrics, all of it just reads so awkwardly, sort of like a stream-of-consciousness speech that's difficult to listen to. Granted, I'm no lyricist so take that as you will, but even when I heard this the first time and was getting a solid idea for the message, it felt clunky. I don't have any issue with his basic message of "Homosexual people deserve the same rights as us, this is ridiculous and gay people don't deserve to be treated like this" so much as I do with how he he chooses to get his message across. I'm not commenting on Lady Gaga right now since I'm not in the mood for comparisons.

I phrased that poorly. If someone used a slur towards a cis friend of mine, slur that might hurt and all but in the end they're comfortable with how they are. With some of the trans* folk here, it wouldn't be the same. The line I was referring to is "In the third grade my dad said I was gay,/because I could draw and kept my room straight." which is so vague it's kind of silly, and is rather clunky too.

I agree that it's clunky but go a few lines down and you'll see this:
I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league"
That from a child's perspective it'd be different? I still don't see how it's any less awkward in perspective. I also hope this isn't tiring for others (I know Yarrun is). Regardless, to summarize my main idea: I like that he's popular and is making these arguments, but I don't entirely like how he gets his message across.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what the line actually is mostly because no one is willing to listen to it.
But again, taking him to task over perceived bigotry because he's bad at writing rap lyrics is just silly.
its super neat that miley cyrus got shit for grinding against robin thicke instead of the married older man getting shit for grinding against a younger, barely-clothed vwoman though. thats vwhy i just lovwe the media.
Robin Thicke: Too scummy and gross for Cronus Ampora.
I was honestly sick of this topic long before yesterday but then my Intro To Media professor felt the need to bring it up as an example of moral decay in america.
I've said before that my professor strikes me as the kind of person who reads the "serious" Cracked articles very often and considers himself clever for it.
He seems to also be one of those people who believe in media Illuminati, though he's not said as such openly yet.
Really the entire class is incredibly stupid and full of forced-integration bullshit that I wouldn't like even if our professor wasn't a loop. I have a recurring series of homework assignments where I have to record myself on a webcam answering a question, because just fucking typing the answer somewhere is too easy I guess, and I have to follow his account on twitter and tweet him answers during class (which I can't do because I don't have a smartphone).
Last paragraph is a bit iffy. Bit too tired to properly parse it. But it's so level-headed, and I've missed level-headed discussion so much. I just want to caress it and

That said I've never found anything wrong with "Same Love" and I'm kind of weirded out by people telling me I should.
I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league"
Which helps put things in perspective I think.

The responses to it were borderline infuriating.
