Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
On a similar note, I've seen quite a few people on Tumblr say that you're a bad person who deserves bad things if you dislike the work of an artist or celebrity who supports equality or a charitable cause.
Sometimes people seem to forget that you can appreciate the cause they're working for without necessarily liking their art.
Thing about Gaga isn't that she's Transphobic or homophobic or really anything-phobic (afaik), it's how she milks her image as a " friend of the 'gay community' " to cause controversy and push record sales. She's also an advocate of the frustratingly irrelevant genetic sexuality argument.
In Tumblr they don’t say “I love you”, they say “*TRIGGER WARNING* superwholock feels die cis scum follow for more soft grunge” which roughly translates to “I am afraid of socialization and never leave my room.” I think that’s so beautiful.
So it seems like this comic has been making the rounds on Tumblr lately.

Spoiler:
I definitely think the point it makes about "weirdness" not necessarily being a bad thing is a good one. Looking down on people just because they happen to be different or go through things at their own pace strikes me as inconsiderate at best and hateful at worst.
At the same time, I feel like it is also worth noting that some people are pretty normal, boring, or unspectacular and that that is okay too. Sometimes I feel like works that emphasize how it is alright to be "weird" can sometimes encourage elitism in the sense that they make it portray people who choose to do more traditional things (e.g., go to school, work in an office, get married) as missing out on something important. I am not sure if this comic in particular really encourages that attitude, but other media with a similar message sometimes do, so I guess I thought it was kind of relevant.
I think the point of the comic is that even the most seemingly normal person has "weird" things about them, so you shouldn't feel bad about being weird.
Sorry about that, that comic was probably a bad example of what I was trying to describe. I guess what I was getting at is that you should not feel bad about not being weird either, so going down a regular, boring route in your life is okay and people who are quirkier, less mainstream, or whatever should not look down on people who are more "normal."
Being comfortable with who you are can be tough, so it is definitely refreshing to see people who are comfortable in their own skin. It is also nice to be able to interact with a diverse group of people who have a whole host of perspectives, interests, and such. I suppose I just find it a little alienating and immodest when people spend a lot of time setting themselves apart from everybody else.
We were at my grandparents’ house for Easter today, and my brother brought along the Nintendo Wii for our cousins to play
Only he forgot the sensor bar :T the thing that makes the wii-motes work and junk
Then he remembered this crazy myth he heard basically said if you light two candles, they act as a sensor bar.
I DON’T KNOW HOW
BUT IT TURNS OUT IT FUCKING WORKS.
So if you ever lose or break the sensor bar, and don’t mind your TV looking like an offering to Satan, I recommend candles :I
I’ll remember that for the next time my sensor bar stuffs up…
This also works with flashlights, in case you don’t have any candles handy. c:
The “sensor” bar doesn’t actually have any sensors. The sensors are in the Wii-mote. The sensor bar is actually just a line of infrared LEDs that an IR camera in the Wii-mote can see, which means you can substitute other IR sources, like candles and flashlights.

As far as I know, it isn't. The people who use "triggered" in this way usually don't have PTSD or obsessive thoughts of any kind. They just don't want to hear anything unpleasant to them.

And I don't suppose there's anything necessarily wrong with that, but those people shouldn't get up in arms when they see something that hasn't been tagged.

Of course no one wants to hear anything unpleasant, but there is something wrong when you try to use a disorder you don't have to justify not wanting to hear it.

I haven't seen much of those lately, but yeah, I got sick of them too.
Didn't you reblog that ham-fisted parody of them I made?

Yeah, it's pretty insulting when people use trigger warnings like that. Particularly bothersome to me is how people that are actually triggered by things tend to be a lot less obnoxious about this sort of thing than the ostriches that simply find those things unsettling.
I just saw a comment under a video about feminism where a guy said he never really paid attention to feminism before because it didn't affect him, but the video convinced him it was important.
Underneath that were people reprimanding him for not caring about feminism and for being convinced by a video.
For the record, this is the post I was talking about.
I’m a 17 year old white guy living in middle class America. I’ve never exactly been a supporter of feminism because that kind of thing has never really affected me personally. I don’t notice it and I don’t care about it. But in nine minutes this video has made what is truly a serious problem extremely apparent. Those “why I need feminism” posts or those slut-shaming or rape culture campaigns never convince me of anything. But this video actually did I think.
tl;dr This video kicks ass, just watch it.
Stop what you’re doing and watch this
okay but can we talk about this dude upthread who apparently wasn’t convinced about any feminist issue until he saw this
like your comment isn’t going to make me like miss representation more (even though it is a great film, and you should watch the whole thing instead of just nine minutes if you’re looking for feminist 101 stuff), it’s going to make me think you’re probably a stupid misogynist who needs to look at pretty flashy pictures before you can become convinced that sexism is a thing (“I think”)
jesus i can’t get over the fucking maleness of that comment
this is a super important comment!
I forgot I had put this post in my queue without editing/adding my own commentary and only remembered it existed when it posted itself. But yeah, that dude’s comment is really telling and I think it’s important to like, leave it there but comment on it, which I failed to do.
“ I’ve never exactly been a supporter of feminism because that kind of thing has never really affected me personally. I don’t notice it and I don’t care about it” is actually kind of scary? Because I’m assuming this dude has females in his life- I’m not necessarily saying mother/sisters, but somewhere there is a female in his life, at least one. And he didn’t think that things that affect them- “those “why I need feminism” posts or those slut-shaming or rape culture campaigns”- have any relevance in his life because it’s doesn’t “personally affect” him. Like, these are women in his life whom he maybe even loves, and things that might speak to what harms them- such as sexual assault, slut-shaming, etc- are not on his radar as things that matter to him in the least (“never convince me of anything”).
You know what 17 year old white guys living in middle class North America who don’t really “support” feminism because it doesn’t personally affect them grow up to be? They grow up to be the middle-aged white banker with a wife and two kids who lives in suburbia and writes an anonymous blog about men’s rights who stalks me. They grow up to be much, much, much worse then that.
An issue shouldn’t directly affect you for you to give a fuck. You’re showing your privilege when you assume that position.

Nah, I think you read it right.

I've never understood that.
