Tumblr is so obnoxiously bad about recovering emails, passwords, and whatnot. Agh. Also, hopefully blacklisting stuff like Star Wars and Homestuck will make my dash more tolerable.
The point is, they're not worth acknowledging to the degree that people insist on making such conversations about them. They're a tiny, annoying minority who are simply very ignorant or unpleasantly biased and I would much rather hear about what's good and right in the world or at least serious bad stuff that I can help fix.
Having said the above, and even acknowledging the subtextual relations between gem culture and human culture, i admit i didn't have an especially strong reaction to Keeping It Together.
Like, it was creepy, and when you think the full implications through you can sort of see why, but mostly it just felt *wrong*, and to me it was unsettling more because Garnet was upset than directly because of what the gem mutants were experiencing.
It's body horror, but it's body horror connected to the anxieties of an alien species with a drastically different physiology and culture. To empathize, i feel you have to be cognizant of exactly what the concepts of breaking and fusion mean to gems, and what it would mean for them to be combined in that particular way. i mean i get it, but i find it fairly hard to put myself in their shoes.

that is a fair assessment i just wanted people to know that they actually exist

The fact that we clearly see the fallen gems trying (and failing) to escape the forced fusion was enough to make it unsettling to me. For me, Garnet's reaction just drove home how horrific the situation actually was.
Also, maybe we should take this to the Steven Universe thread?
So, I was in Mcdonalds just using the wi-fi when this lady walked in. Her hair was dyed so I could tell that she was an SJW. There were only men in the line at Mcdonalds and she walked pass all of them and said, “This is the 21st century, feminism allows me to do this to cis-het white men like you.” and then she cackled evilly. She then asked the cashier to make her one McCake, and also to give her a discount because of the wage gap (not real btw). When the cashier told her that Mcdolands doesn’t make cakes she just gave him an evil glaire and said, “This is just like Anita said. Yet another cis-het mansplaining away free food. This is going straight on tumblr and twitter. I hope you enjoy having your entire life censored, shitlord.” That’s when I couldn’t take it anymore. I walked straight up to the woman, got right in her face, and yelled THE CAKE IS A LIE! The entire mcdonalds gasped… and then they started applauding. That’s when I realized, that everyone in that mcdonalds had been a gamer. The SJW was beside herself and stumbled out of the mcdolmnalds, falling into a puddle of water and sullying her Steven Universe jorts. The cashier started crying out of joy and handed me $100 straight from the cash register. He also said I’m allowed to get free nuggets for the rest of my life. It turned out that he was the son of the CEO of Mcdonalds. Also, I just asked him to marry me. You might have heard of him, his name is Albert Einstein Jr.
Two years. Two years, and I ain't gone anywhere. I'm still on 'the most boring Tumblr in known space, by design'.
Bastard runs his blog by bot, did you know that? It's all either postings about how much Ellis has slept or eaten today, or the weather, or his articles from other websites, and occasionally pluggings for new projects. It's so boring.

I gotta post mine because it has this really amusing spike last weekend:
Never underestimate the power of rabid cross-fandom sperging. :P
the sad thing is that she's making a good point. i just didn't know until i read it out loud without placing emphasis on the italicized words because attempting to read it in my head was just too obnoxious. i get it, you're an intellectual

you lied about someone to make people hate them. thats gaslighting. textbook in fact.
How did it come to be that "gaslighting" is a word primarily used by people who don't actually know what it means?
Depending on the context, that can be gaslighting, or a component of it, but that action alone would simply be slander, which is different. Gaslighting would be lying behind someone's back in order to make people hate them and then acting concerned that they were subject to such nasty rumours or denying that you had noticed or heard anything of the sort. It's about manipulating someone to pull the rug out from under them and make them question the validity of their own perceptions and, quite often, their own sanity, while inviting others to question these things themselves through incomplete information. It's a subtle and complex form of cruelty.
Yes, you already know this, but defining one's terms is important and these people don't do it enough.
Tumblr is not capable of informing someone about something in a way that isn't phrased like it's the final exhausted explanation to an audience of idiots who are stubbornly refusing to get it.

It seems like people who misuse "gaslighting" have some vague idea of what it actually entails, but assume it must be way more common than it is, so end up applying it far too broadly.
Someone posted some cute designs for Pokemon trainers, and then I got to the bottom and it said "my little pokemon", and I scrolled back up and realized they were the main characters from MLP as humans. And I hadn't recognized them at all.

Well, some people would like to just not have the hassle, and no one should feel obligated to force "the real world" down their throat because you don't know what they're going through
But I understand not wanting to be coddled and as always the key is, like, talking to people about your triggers and hangups and stuff especially if their approach is bothering you *shrugs*
But the thing is, there are certain circumstances which I didn't address in the post where people's expectations really begin to head into unreasonable territory. One of the people who I follow has this blog which is dedicated to weird, fascinatingly grotesque things like the Bone Chapel in the Czech Republic and weird deep sea creatures and two-headed calf foetuses in jars. For a while, she was getting harassed on a regular basis by anons who were angry that she didn't tag things the way that they thought she should, and I had to wonder why they were even looking at her blog in the first place.
*shrug* again, you don't know exactly what anyone's deal is
A lot of people on Tumblr are just discovering their mental illnesses after years of feeling vaguely different or ostracized and having their feelings invalidated, and by assuming they're being unreasonable you're kind of putting them back there, y'know?
At any rate worst case scenario these are just kids acting childish in an attempt at progressivism
And like yeah you have your own personal totally valid reasons for finding it distasteful on a /personal/ level, and that's why it's helpful to just like, communicate this stuff to others, you know?
I hope this doesn't sound patronizing at any rate it's all stuff I've had to learn
Still, explaining presumptuous behaviour does not excuse it. By no means do I want to ostracise anyone for their pain, but being nasty to someone who's just out there doing there thing that is not directly adversely affecting you because they are not doing things your way is just so arrogant.
On my blog, I tag stuff that's markedly gory or deals with heavy subject matter or is just plain NSFW. But I'm not going to begrudge everyone I follow to do the same, because I feel like some blogs have a particular theme or personality and it should be evident to the follower what they are getting into beforehand. A blog entirely about pictures of kittens is not the same as a blog about bad metal CD art or the archives of the Mütter Museum. The rules are different.

All their text posts feature overuse of italics as emphasis so people catch important words
Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead
