I've seen the first Fullmetal Alchemist. Watched the whole thing in... three sittings, I think, maybe four? Splendid show. Truly great character writing.
Oh, and to provide some context for the above sensory assault, here's a thingy:
That scene was what got me interested in watching Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, specifically the part between 1:00 and 1:10

Watched the first few episode of Angel Beats.
It's pretty entertaining, I was impressed with the first episode where we get to learn all about the premise, but the other two I watched are a bit duller in that their sort of just going into more detail about the world...
Kinda hard to describe, I guess it's a more action packed, but less entertaining Haibane Renmei.
The marketing for that show is purposefully misleading, so it was only a matter of time before a network was fooled by it.
i liked both FMAs (haven't watched all of Brotherhood yet). Brotherhood felt rather rushed at first, but gets better once it catches up with where the original and the manga diverged. It also felt more stylized than the original, which i have mixed feelings about. i think Brotherhood is the funnier of the two, and the worldbuilding seems more interesting. The animation quality is higher, but much of the art isn't as good. At times, Brotherhood also feels much darker, although the original certainly had its moments.

I didn't mind that Brotherhood felt rushed at first, honestly. Brotherhood is basically the manga adaption, and the first anime started as the manga adaption until it overtook the manga and they had to come up with the rest of the show. Usually an anime turns to crap in this case, but the writer and director here did a great job (ignoring the movie...). However, the beginning of both anime was basically going to pan out exactly the same, so slowing things down in the earlier episodes of Brotherhood would just give us episodes pretty much everyone has already seen.
i suppose, but it would have been nice to have a series that stood as a standalone. The shows aren't interchangeable, and as a consequence of the rushed presentation you can form a very different impression of some of the characters in Brotherhood, and Roy especially (the presentation is also a bit different in other respects, and there are minor changes in the earlier continuity). The first anime more closely follows Ed and Alphonse's perspective.
i haven't seen the movie. i thought the ending to the first anime was fine the way it was.

You're probably better off not seeing the movie...
I more or less treated Brotherhood as a manga adaption. I guess on its own it falls short with the rushed beginning, but with the earlier episodes of the first anime to fill the gaps, I think it works. I usually go into these keeping in mind other works and the events in them, so I prefer when writers skip over things that are covered in other works of the same medium.
Kinda how I felt the second Hulk movie made a good sequel, but a pretty lack-luster stand-alone movie and why I found much of the new Spider-Man movie pretty boring. There's only six years difference between when each Fullmetal Alchemist series begun, rehashing old episodes would basically just be doing a minor face-lift from stuff I already saw and knew about while also taking time away from showing new material.

It works if you keep the context in mind, yes. Six years is a pretty long time to expect audiences to remember the details, though.
I suppose, though people also can re-watch parts of the older one. Friday loves the first anime, as mentioned, so I think we probably watched it a year or even less before starting Brotherhood.
I also have a tendency to remember things I've watched. One of the reasons I haven't leaped at the chance to watch the new Berserk. Aside from a face-lift, it's not really offering much new material.
Conqueror of Shamballa was, to put it bluntly, chopped and screwed. Shou Aikawa's original script was about three hours long; the final product is half that length, and it shows. It's not bad per se, but it feels rushed and the character development is haphazard in the extreme—quite a step down from the main series. Also, the main antagonist's motivation toward the end feels forced in, even though there are little nods to it early on and hints of hidden depths that are never explored; I would guess that most of said character's development was left on the cutting room floor, so to speak, along with that of any number of others. Then there's the whole "kill anyone and everyone" thing, but that could have been better executed with—yes!—a longer run time. Also, the ending to that one is... not entirely unsatisfying, but not half as refreshing as that of the show itself, which was great.
The use of CGI was also really questionable. All of the traditional animation was great, though.
Despite this, I liked the film. I just thought that it could have been great and ended up... OK? Decent enough?

OH SHIT IT IS ON NOW.
I don't HATE Panty and Stalking, but it seems kinda gimmicky and I'm getting tired of the jokes by halfway through the second episode, so who knows how it's going to keep me interested through an entire series.
Also, it was hot on the heels of Gurren Lagann, and I think there was a general feeling of "GAINAX CAN DO NO WRONG AS LONG YOU LIKE THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX!" And then they hit us with Panty and Stalking, and yes it's outside the box for an anime, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's all that great.
As I understand it, it's a sex comedy with dramatic elements that riffs on the pseudo-anime art style of things like The Powerpuff Girls while making fun of western animation in a semi-affectionate manner.
There is literally nothing about that that gives me a reason to watch it.
Panty and Stocking just seemed kinda crude and unfunny to me. i saw only one episode, and i don't think it was the first one, so maybe that didn't help, but i just couldn't see how anyone could possibly feel entertained by it, unless they really, really liked cheap innuendo, i guess.

Bobobobobobobo is on the same level as Madoka Magicka in terms of animation and popularity, correct?
I'm not even sure how to begin answering that question...I think Madoka Magika is higher budget, even considering the time difference in when they came out.
I have enjoyed what I've watched of Bobobobobobobo, which is about a dozen episodes or so...
I'm going to try watching more Madoka Magika today. I tried starting it right before bed and decided I was in no mood for the slow start, slice of life stuff I was watching. Though, obviously, that doesn't last.

Thank you, based Anonus.
That anime.
Which they aired for the first episode only.
I assume after watching the remainder of the series and discovering that it's not actually a children's show.

On a more positive note, the start of Brotherhood did have some excellent foreshadowing.

i would like to be able to remember things i've watched better, but in practice i usually forget a lot, and i am rarely a 'casual' viewer.
