Wasn't he kind of a religious, bookish fellow? What'd he be doing with a farming implement.
Erasmus's real name was probably Geert Geerts or Gerhart Gerharts, and his dad was probably thus named Geerts/Gerhart. He was maybe born in Rotterdam or maybe Gouda in maybe the year 1467, give or take one or two years. There is no real proof or record of the last two sentences. If Erasmus's dad is named Geerts/Gerhart, then that Geerts/Gerhart (erasmus's dad) is probably the same guy who is a priest of Rotterdam named Geerts. He (Geert Geerts / Gerhart Gerharts a.k.a. Erasmus) probably went to monastic school at a young age, given that he said that he did.
But, yeah, Erasmus was all ashamed of his early life and childhood and origins; and not only put a smokescreen on his origins, but gave infuriatingly conflicting accounts of what few details he agreed to divulge (Sometimes, he said he was born in 1467, other times, he said different years.). The only real information we have on his early years is from Erasmus himself. If there were relevant other records, they do not exist anymore or maybe never existed. We don't know what may or may not have happened to whatever records may or may not have existed about whatever may or may not have happened.
All incormation we have on his early life comes from Erasmus himself; it is very vague, very little, and often contradictory. He really didn't like to talk about the first twenty or maybe twenty-five years of his life (stupid contradictory statements by him as to the year he was born and his age.). He especially didn't like the first ten-to-fourteen years; and especially especially the very first few years.
There are a few agreed-upon things gathered from his accounts, and a vague outline of what he said his early life was like. But, we just have his word for it.
So, I guess, the Scythe must be another of Erasmus's mysteries.

It turns out CAD is sometimes okay if you remove the wordy middle panels.
