Sometimes I start monologues in my head, intending to type them out, but declare them stupid and declare myself an idiot halfway through and just stop.
It makes me worry at times that the only reason 90% of my posts are shitposting is that I'm literally afraid to express opinions on anything serious because I worry I'll look like an idiot.

hush hush, eye-to-eye
Nah, you've probably got a point. Problem is, I don't know how to break from that...

It doesn't help that I developed this sort of "can't express my opinions" habit back when I was younger and stupider and had opinions I really couldn't defend. I think my opinions now are much more in line with reality, though I tend to lean to the far left on a lot of issues.

I just worry that if I say something like "I believe the US should have universal healthcare", without already having a whole list of arguments ready to defend my position, I'll immediately get smacked down by the people who disagree with that position.

No that's only on the stupid sites on the internet.

^^ See, that's part of the problem. I worry by confining my interactions mainly to parts of the internet where my "deviance" (read: obsessive interests and also transgenderism) is widely accepted, I'm giving myself unrealistic expectations for when when I eventually have to interact in the real world.
...I think I lost my train of thought here a while back

I'm exactly the same way.
The only difference being that I never used to have this problem. I'd just blurt out whatever stupid or offensive thing came to mind and argue until somebody persuaded me to think differently. It was only when I became slightly more self-conscious and slightly more mindful of other people's feelings that doing this started to bother me.
re:"far left", the left-right spectrum was devised in France in the late 1700s in a totally different political climate, so I don't think it's very applicable or worth caring much about. Believe what you think is right.

For me it started happening a few years back, after I blurted out a couple particularly stupid things. Even though I truly believed them at the time, I saw that people seemed to think less of me for them, so I made a conscious effort to shut myself up whenever anything came up that I felt strongly about.
Re: left/right: The point I was trying to make wasn't so much about the "left" and "right" labels as such, but more the fact that my views tend to be toward an extreme, at least as far as American politics is concerned.
CA, I really don't think that deliberately limiting the things you allow yourself to say is constructive.
If you want to express political opinions, express them. As long as you're not rude about them (which I sincerely doubt you would be) I don't think most people (certainly not me) would think less of you, and anyone who does is honestly probably not worth your time anyway.
I mean, Naney and I are ideologically opposed, politically speaking, and I still like him.

I wonder how many other people enjoy reading parts of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The book's full of jargon and pseudo-legalese; sometimes even I have a hard time believing I enjoy it.
